Being a Freshman in English Department: Hopes and Fears

My first semester in college. I notice about I’ve been noticing how college
freshmen are so obviously college freshmen. I was extremely nervous about meeting
people and making friends. I also totally remember the excitement, anxiousness and
remarkable amount of cluelessness that comes with being a brand spanking new college
freshman. The first semester of my freshman year of college was a whole bunch of not
getting what I wanted. Not getting things that I applied for. Not fitting into the group of
people that I wanted to be friends with. Not having any of the guys that I was interested in
be interested back. Not achieving the grades I wanted. My freshman year of college can
be an exciting time of new freedoms and experiences, it can also include pressure and
personal turmoil. A 2010 study by the Higher Education Research Institute revealed that
only about 52 percent of college students believe they are emotionally healthy. While
academics, financial worries and the desire to fit in can all create challenges, getting
help from parents and resources and caring for yourself can help you overcome the
pressures of starting college. New experiences, new friends. When I get to college, I’ll
find it’s difficult to stay close to my high school friends because they no longer share
my experiences. I may also experience homesickness. To gain a sense of belonging,
attend freshmen orientation activities, get involved in extracurricular activities, and find
a part-time job. It’s important to stay busy and meet new people. I go to bed later and
get up later. I am in class for a total of three to four hours each day and those hours are
staggered throughout the day. I will think I have plenty of time to study and will have
an urge to procrastinate. Instead, use the time between classes to review notes and
study.

Organization will be important in all aspects of my college life. Be it my class,

your room, or my life in general. I must have a plan. Take the time to download some
organizational tools so you'll have strategies to help right at your fingertips. So my first
hope is that I can join any organization at any level on this campus. One of the skills
needed by students is the ability to read and read a lot, as well as speed reading. If I
have 5-6 classes per semester, I will read a lot. Take the opportunity to read whatever I
can get my hands on as I prepare for my freshman class. So my next hope is to be a
diligent student and stay consistent. I may think that I don't need networking until I look
for work, but everyone I meet can be the connection I need down the road. Be friendly
and welcoming with everyone I meet in my daily life. Take the time to learn people's
names and be interested in their lives. Being able to network is a very valuable skill. my
next hope is to add connection. And also I want to graduate with a very satisfactory
score

More often than not, new freshman to a college don’t know anyone very well at
their new school. Occasionally, my best or close friends may choose the same college,
but usually that isn’t the case. It’s easy to become afraid that i won’t meet anyone i care
for or want to spend time with. This can lead to a fear of loneliness or alienation. In
college, there are so many different people from varying backgrounds and parts of the
area . There are many places to make new friends. my dorm floor, classmates, clubs,
sports, student organizations, friends of friends. Fear of failure is a big one and, for
some people, it continues throughout their college career and after graduation. College
classes are different and, in most cases, more difficult than high school courses. If i
don’t head this fear off though, it could become paralyzing throughout my stay at the
school and after my head to my new career.
