Product MiR100 HW 7.0

Released by Odin Skovsted

Description
We have introduced a new hardware version of MiR100 where the wireless
access point functionality has been removed. Furthermore, MiR100 now comes in
two versions: with a 24 V Standard capacity battery and a 24 V Extended capacity
battery.

Figure 1.1. MiR100 with a standard battery (left) and MiR100 with an extended battery (right). The
robot on the right has a small bump underneath the top cover. This bump allows room for the
extended battery.

1.1 Ethernet switch

MiR100 in hardware version 7.0 is installed with an Ethernet switch instead of the
previously used router.

We have made this change to easier comply with standards and markets and to
make the connection between the robots and the company WiFi more stable.

When robots emit their own WiFi it can interfere with the connection to the
company WiFi, especially if multiple robots are in the same area. This can lead to
disturbances in the communication between the robots and MiR Fleet, which can
cause slowdowns and stoppages. The new Ethernet switch does not emit its own
WiFi so it cannot interfere with the company WiFi.

The Ethernet Switch is located next to the battery in the same place as the router
was located and it has the same dimensions as the router.

1.2 Connect with an Ethernet cable or an access

point dongle
The replacement means that the robots will no longer provide their own WiFi
network. Therefore, you will not be able to connect wirelessly to a robot before it
is connected to the WiFi on site.

Instead, you connect a PC, tablet, or phone to the robot's internal network using
either an Ethernet cable or an access point dongle via the RJ45 Ethernet port
under the bumper on the front-right corner shield of the robot.

Once connected, you can configure the robot's settings and connect it to a
wireless network in exactly the same way as before.

Hardware Release Note

MiR offer a WIFI access point dongle that is compliant for use in North America,
EU, and some countries accepting EAC. Outside these areas, you need to use
your own access point that is approved for use in your region. If you choose to
use an access point, you must ensure that the robot is disconnected from the
wireless network before attaching the access point to remain compliant.

If you are using an access point, connect your device to the access point. The MiR
WiFi dongle name has the following format: MiR_3042XXXXX. Use the password
shipped with the access point to connect.

1.3 24 V Extended capacity battery

MiR100 with a 24 V Extended capacity battery looks different as the rear cover
has been modified to fit the new and bigger battery.

1.4 Serial numbers

The following robots will be released as hardware version 7.0:
• MiR100 robots (24 V Standard capacity battery) with product serial numbers
201704200 and higher
• MiR100 robots (24 V Extended capacity battery) with product serial numbers
2018040000 and higher
