10.What are the 3 types of media? Explain and give an example of each.
There are 3 types of media:
• Transparent medium:
o They are materials that allow nearly all
light to pass through.
o They give a clear image.
o Ex: clear glass, glass window, clear water.
• Translucent medium:
o They are materials that allow some light to pass through.
o They give a blurry image.
o Example: frosted glass, tracing paper.
• Opaque medium:
o They are materials that do not allow light to pass through.
o We can’t see through them.
o Example: wall, wood, book etc.
11.What is reflection?
The bouncing of light off an object is known as reflection.
12.What is refraction?
The bending of light as it passes at an angle from one type of matter into
another is called refraction.
13.What are lenses?
Lenses are curved transparent objects that refract light.
Most lenses are circular and are made of clear glass or plastic.
❖ Convex lens:
• A convex lens is a lens that is thicker at the
center and thinner at the edges.
• Ex. Magnifying glass
• Convex lenses converge light at one point.

❖ Concave lens:
• A concave lens is a lens that is thicker at the edges
and thinner at the center.
• Concave lenses spread light waves away from a point.
