1. What is the purpose of art?

For the artist it is his way of expressing ideas, thoughts and feelings. For those who are spectators of
these creations, the purpose is to enjoy it and awaken in each one of us feelings related to sencibility
such as peace, harmony, joy and love of beauty.

It serves to help create works and thus leave aside the negative or simply express something saved
that hurts us or fills us with happiness.

Instructions: Describe the front cover of the book. Talk about colors, intensity of the scene and what
you think the images represent. Then say what this story is about.

Description: The image represents pain and sadness at the love story that both characters lived when they
could not be together for their families. Both show a face full of resentment and tears with a broken heart; between
thorns that could be the interventions of their parents that do not let them live in peace. The colors are dark and
at night to show tragedy. Red shows love and at the same time the blood they had to spill to finally bring their
families together.

Story: In the book of Romeo and Juliet, we observe scenes of a frenetic and fast love. In the city of Verona
there are two rival families that maintains an old grudge that involves even strangers to families like Paris and
Mercutio. The only two descendants of each Romeo and Juliet family meet for the first time in a reunion and fall
head over heels in love. The lovers are forced to sneak the second time, the third time they marry in secret
thanks to Fray Lorenzo.

Shortly after the wedding in a confrontation between Montescos and Capulets, Romeo's best friend dies,
Mercutio at the hands of Capulet's nephew Teodobaldo, Romeo in revenge kills him, the prince condemns
Romeo to exile Mantua. The fourth time the lovers see each other consume their wedding night, Juliet's father
plans to marry the gentleman Paris.

Fray Lorenzo creates a plan to save the love of Romeo and Juliet, she will drink a potion in a vial that will make
her look dead for 42 hours and she fulfills the plan.
The messenger of Fray Lorenzo fails on the way to notify Romeo of the plan, he learns of the alleged death of
Juliet and decides to return to Verona to die at the grave of his beloved.

In the cemetery are Romeo and Paris, they face and Paris dies, Romeo drinks a poison before Fray Lorenzo
avoids it and Juliet wakes up. Julieta wakes up and Fray Lorenzo explains the situation, the guards chase
away the Fray and Julieta takes Romeo's dagger and commits suicide. In the Fray Lorenzo cemetery he tells
the story and finally it seems that the families will make peace.
Exercise 13
Instructions: Choose four of the best scenes (for you) and describe them. Try to use as many
adjectives and verbs as you can. If you do not know the complete story, you may look for the written
one in internet.
