Experiment No: Date: Aim: Wheel is removed from the given vehicle then mounded in the wheel balancing machine and balance the wheel according to the manufacturing standards then refit the given vehicle. Materials required: 1. Wheel balancing weights ( 10g, 29g, 45g, 80g, 100g,) 2. Wheel balance machine. 3. Counter weight pincer. 4. Compass gauge. 5. Tread wear indicator. Tools required: Wheel spanner, hydraulic jack, chalk piece and basic mechanic tools. Air compressor, pressure gauge. Valve core remover tyre thread depth gauge. Procedure: 1. All the wheel nuts of the vehicles are loosened. 2. Stoppages are created for the wheels of the vehicle so that it does not move. 3. The wheel, for which the wheel balancing is to be created out, is lifted using the hydraulic jack. 4. The wheel nuts removed and the wheel is taken out. 5. The tyre is pressurised as per manufacturer standard. 6. The tread of the tyre is checked for the presence of small stones and iron pieces by rotating it. Remove the pieces if they are found during rotation. 7. Using the gauge provide to determine the distance of the inner side of the wheel from the machine and then set it. 8. The nominal width can usually be found on the wheel rim. 9. If not, use the compass gauge provided to determine it, then set it. 10. Set the nominal diameter as shown in the tyre. 11. Lift the front liver and press (Start), keeping the lever pushed upwards to start the wheel spinning. 12. Release the lever and the (START), key when the displays go off, the machine with then start making measurements. 13. When the displays show the measurement values brake the wheel by pushing the front lever downwards instruments 1 and 2 will keep the unbalance values in their memories. 14. LEDs on displays 3 and 4 will indicate correction position. It all the LEDs are alight this means that the correction weight should be applied to the vertical apex. 15. The spinning and braking lever is again activated and after the wheel comes to rest, the required weight is necessary needs to be added. 16. After the wheel gets balanced after repeated times of the above process the wheel is remove from the machine. 17. After fitting the wheel in the vehicle, the wheel balancing process is repeated for all wheels. 18. This is how the static and dynamic balancing of the wheels is carried out. Result: Thus the wheel balance for the given vehicle performed using a wheel balance machine is carried out successfully.
