Check of люфт a steering wheel


On a standing car, by setting the wheels in the straight-ahead position, shake the steering wheel
from side to side with a little effort. If the system exceeds permissible, repair it. Maximum
backlash 30 mm

Checking the drive belt drive of the amplifier

Press the belt with a force of 98 N, and measure the deflection of the belt.

Drive belt deflection:

4A-FE; 5A-FE: new 5-6 mm, used 6-8 mm

Check of a level of a working liquid

1. Place the vehicle on a level platform.


2. With the engine off, check the fluid level and top up if necessary. Working liquid ATF
DEXROW® II or III Note: if the working fluid is warm, the liquid level is at the interval "HOT1 on
the tank or dipstick, if the cold liquid is in the" COLD "interval.

3. Warm up the working fluid.

a) Start the engine and set the speed to 1000 rpm.


b) Turn the steering wheel several times from the stop to the stop, to increase the temperature
of the working fluid to 40 - 80 ° C.

4. Check for foaming or emulsification of the liquid. If there is foaming or emulsification, bleed
the power steering system.

5. Check the fluid level.


a) Measure the liquid level with the engine running.

b) Turn off the engine, wait a few minutes and measure the liquid level.

Maximum increase in the level

liquid of …………………………………….5 mm

If the liquid level is more than 5 mm, pump the system.

6. Check the fluid level.

Checking the force on the steering wheel

Note: Before checking, check tire pressure, type of tires and tire contact surface.

1. (For models not equipped with airbag)

Remove the steering wheel cover.

 a) Remove the steering wheel cover bolt and remove it.

b) Disconnect the connector.

2. (For models equipped with airbag).

Remove the steering wheel cover (see the "Airbag (SRS)" chapter). Attention: keep the cover
face up.

3. Determine the force on the steering wheel.

a) Stop the vehicle on a level surface and install the steering wheel in the direction of travel in a
straight line.

b) Start the engine and set the idling speed.

c) Install the torque wrench as shown.

d) Measure the force on the steering wheel in both directions.

The maximum allowable force ……………………………………. 0 Nm

e) Check the tightening of the steering wheel mounting nut.


Tightening torque 30 Nm

e) Install the steering wheel in the direction of travel in a straight line.

4. (For models not equipped with airbag).

Install the steering wheel cover.

a) Connect the connector.

b. Install the steering wheel cover and tighten the bolt.

5. (For models equipped with airbag).

Install the steering wheel cover, {see. see "Airbag (SRS)").

Check of pressure of a working liquid of the amplifier of a


steering
1. Connect the manometer. (4A-FE, 5A-FE, 2CJ a) Unscrew the choke bolt and remove the
gasket.
Tightening torque…………………………………….. 52 Nm

b) Connect the pressure gauge using the adapters as shown in the figure.

Caution: the pressure gauge valve must be open during installation.

2. Bleed the power steering system.

3. Warm up the working fluid.

a) Start the engine and set the idling speed.

b) Turn the steering wheel from stop to stop two or three times to warm the working fluid.

Working temperature liquid ………………………………….75 - 80 ° С

4. Check the working fluid pressure when the pressure gauge valve is closed. Close the
pressure gauge tap and measure the pressure.

Minimum allowable pressure: 4A-FE, 5A-FE, 7A-FE ..... 6500-7000 kPa


Attention:

- Do not keep the valve closed for more than 10 seconds.

- Do not allow the temperature of the working fluid to become too high.

5. Check the fluid pressure when the pressure gauge tap is open.

a) When the engine is idling, open the valve completely.

b) Measure the fluid pressure at the engine speed of 1000 rpm and 3000 rpm.

Maximum allowable difference pressures ……………………. 500 kPa

Note: do not turn the steering wheel

Check the fluid pressure when turning the steering wheel to the extreme position.
At idling speed of the engine, and with the valve fully open, turn the steering wheel to the
maximum angle.
Minimum allowable pressure: 4A-FE, 5A-FE, 7A-FE ..... 6500 - 7000 kPa

Attention:
- Do not hold the steering wheel in the extreme position for more than 10 seconds.
- Do not allow the temperature of the working fluid to become too high.

7. Disconnect the pressure gauge and connect the discharge line to the pump housing.
8. Bleed the power steering system.

Prorolling the power steering system

1. Check the level of the working fluid in the reservoir.


2. Lift the front of the car and place it on the stand.
Note: try not to spill liquid out of the tank.
3. With the engine off, turn the steering wheel from stop to stop several times.
4. Lower the car.
5. Start the engine and set to 1000 rpm. Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock while holding
it in the extreme position for 2-3 seconds. Repeat this procedure three to four times.
6. Switch off the engine.
7. Check that the liquid is not foamed or emulsified. If foaming or emulsification is present,
check for leaks in the system.
8. Check the fluid level.

Steering gear Withdrawal


1. Remove the front wheel. Tightening torque 105 Nm
2. Drain the hydraulic fluid.
3. Install the tool to support the engine.
4. Disconnect the ends of the steering linkage from the levers of the steering knuckle.
a) Remove the cotter pins and unscrew the nuts.
b) Using a special tool, detach the tips of the steering rods from the levers of the knuckle.
Attention: do not damage the anther.

5. Remove the engine protection cover.
6. Disconnect the universal joint.
a) Loosen a bolt of fastening of the hinge to a shaft of a steering column,
b) Remove the bolt from the hinge to the worm,
c) Mark the hinge and worm and disconnect the hinge.

7. Disconnect the return and discharge pipes.

8. (2WD, 4WD automatic transmission)

Remove the bolts of the mounting bracket for the discharge pipe.

Removing the steering gear (2WD). 1 - cotter pin, 2 - clamp, 3 - pressure line, 4 - clamp, 5 -
bushing, 6 - longitudinal girder, 7 - motor protection casing, 8 - intake pipe of muffler.

10. (2WD)
Remove the longitudinal beam.
a) Poddokruktte longitudinal beam.
b) Remove the bolts and nuts and remove the longitudinal beam

11. Disconnect the stabilizer posts.

Remove the bolt and the two nuts and disconnect the lower suspension arms from the ball
joints.

14. Remove a cross-section beam in gathering,

a) Remove the bolt and the two nuts and remove the transverse beam assembly from the
engine support.
d) Undercut the transverse beam.
e) Remove the bolts and remove the extra crossbar braces.

Attention: when removing the bolts, hold the steering gear.

d) Remove the bolts and remove the transverse beam assembly with the steering gear.

15. Disconnect the steering gear from the transverse beam

Replacement of steering drafts

1. Disconnect the ends of the steering linkage from the levers of the steering knuckle.
2. Loosen a counternut and turn away a tip of steering draft.
3. Remove steering draft.
a) Loosen collars and remove a cover of steering draft.
Attention:
- be careful not to damage the cover.
- put distinctive marks on the right and left covers, not to confuse them during installation.

Note: when assembling to the parts indicated by the arrows, apply:

Pic 1.2 hydraulic fluid,
Pic 1.3 silicone grease,
Pic 1.4 sealant.

b) Open the folded parts of the lock washer.


Attention: do not damage the rail.

c) Remove the steering rod as shown. Remove the lock washer:

4. Establish a new steering draft.
a) Install the new lock washer.
b) Apply grease to the ball joint of the steering rod.

c) Install and tighten the steering rod.


d) Use a brass rod and a hammer to bend the lock washer. Attention: do not damage the rail.

5. Install the cover and clamps,
a) Make sure that the hole in the rack is not clogged with grease.
Note: if the hole is clogged, the pressure that occurs inside the boot when turning the steering
wheel can damage the cover.

b) Install the boot and clamps. Secure the cover with a large clamp as shown.

6. Establish a tip of steering draft,


a) Screw the lock nut and the tip onto the steering rod.
b) Make sure that the cover is not twisted and secure it with a small clamp.

7. Connect the ends of the tie rods to the levers of the knuckle.
Caution: after replacing the steering rods, adjust the toe of the front wheels.

Installation
1. Installation is in the reverse order to removal.
2. The tightening torque of the bolts and nuts is shown in the assembly drawing.
3. Installing the steering gear, combine the made at removal of a label.
4. When installing the cotter pin to the nut of fastening the tips of the steering rods to the levers
of the rotary knuckle, the nut can be turned into an angle of no more than 60 °.
5. After installing the steering gear:
a) Stabilize the suspension (see the chapter "Suspension").
b) Top up the hydraulic fluid.
c) Bump the power steering system.
d) Check for leaks in. system.
e) Check the steering angles.
Power Steering Pump (4A-FE, 5A-FE, 7A-FE)
Withdrawal

1. Remove the lower right engine protection cover.


2. Disconnect vacuum tubes from the valve of increase in frequency of rotation of idling.

3. Drain the hydraulic fluid.
4. Unscrew the choke bolt, remove the gasket and disconnect the discharge line from the pump.
Tightening torque ………………………………………………… 52 Nm

a) Loosen the adjusting bracket bolt.

b) Loosen the axle bolt and remove the belt.
Tightening torque …………………………………………………… 40Nm

7. Remove the pump assembly with the mounting bracket.
a) Remove the four bolts of the mounting bracket.

Bolts (M12) …………………………………………………………….. 20 N-m
