7 Merano High Mountain Trail
“The trekking path is really beautiful and there are many different ways of walking it. However, one side of the path
drops steeply to the valley and it's nothing if you are afraid of heights, although there are cable ropes to guarantee
your security.”

We thought one of these reviews should be in English. We are local American residents and we have been coming
here for 15 years. The trail is fantastic as are the lifts.

“We suggest the following itinerary: Drive to the village of Velloi, which is above Lagundo. From these, take the 2
person bucket lift to the Leiteralm. This is a great place to have a coffee and prepare yourself for the trail. From the
Leiteralm, traverse the Meraner Höhenweg to the Steinegg. This walk is about an hour. Have lunch at the Steinegg
and hike back to the Leiteralm and take the return lift to Velloi. This will give you a full day of views, fresh air and
good food.

Tip: We have taken many friends on this hiking trail and always advise them to wear good footware and not drink a
lot of beer at either alm. The trail is very well maintained, but the drop-offs are steep; not a place to goof around. A
clear day after high winds will provide the best views. Also, beware of afternoon thunder storms from June through
August. A light jacket is a good idea.

In our opinion, this is the absolute best local attraction in the Meran area. There is no fee for the trail, but lift tickets
need to be purchased. The altitude is over 1,500 meters and we have seen people from 8 years old to 85 years old
on the trail. Enjoy!”

1 Puez-Geisler Nature Park

“The Nature Park is Puez-Geisler is of the most beautiful sites in the Dolomites. There are lots of trekking paths for
every kind of physical condition and you can really get close to the amazing mountains without long walks. Animals,
rare flowers and plants make the park not just attractive for geologists but for everyone loving the nature.”

2 Piazza Walther
“Good place to people-watch. Lots of outdoor cafe. When you are done watching/eating/drinking, go to the Duomo,
which is right next to it.”
