I am going to analyze the President Clinton 1993 Inaugural Address.

That is
an interesting field to observe, because stylistics can give many opportunities to
analyze person’s speech and find out whether the speaker has a rich vocabulary, to
see person’s style of speech and individual manner of performing speech.
At first, I heard many examples of alliteration:
 “When our founders boldly declared America's independence to the
world...”
 “Though we march to the music of our time, our mission is timeless”
 “…we inherit an economy that is still the world's strongest, but is
weakened by business failures...”
In addition, there were some examples of assonance:
 “And I thank the millions of men and women whose steadfastness and
sacrifice triumphed over Depression, fascism and Communism.”
 “When George Washington first took the oath I have just sworn to
uphold, news traveled slowly across the land by horseback and across the
ocean by boat”
 “It is time to break the bad habit of expecting something for
nothing…”
Alliteration emphasizes the sound of individual words, highlighting them
and giving them a special expressive sound. Assonance takes place when two or
more words, close to one another repeat the same vowel sound. Both of them make
speech more melodic and pleasant to listen to.
There were one exemplar of simile:
 “This beautiful capital, like every capital since the dawn of
civilization, is often a place of intrigue and calculation”
Simile expresses a likeness between some objects. In that case, we can see
equating the US capital, Washington, with other capitals since the dawn of
civilization.
Also, I found one example of synecdoche:
 “To renew America, we must meet challenges abroad as well at
home”
There is the word “home” which has meaning of the whole country but the
building in that case.
William J. Clinton uses a lot of epithets to describe different aspects of
American people’s life and political changes: ancient hatreds, new plagues,
unrivaled prosperity, deep divisions, deep divisions, profound and powerful forces,
dramatic change, beautiful capital, peaceful diplomacy, greatest strength,
unmistakable chorus, troubled children, simple but powerful truth, the deepest
measure of unity, joyful mountaintop of celebration.
During the stylistics analysis, I analyzed examples of alliteration, assonance,
simile, synecdoche, and epithets which were used in the President Clinton 1993
Inaugural Address.
