WHAT IS INDUSTRY 4.0?

The Fourth Industrial Revolution, also known as Industry 4.0, is changing the way

businesses operate and therefore the environments in which they are forced to

compete.

INDUSTRY 4.0 OBJECTIVES

Industry 4.0 holds the promise of a new revolution that combines advanced

production and operation techniques with intelligent technologies that will be

integrated into organizations, people, and assets.

This revolution is marked by the appearance of new technologies such as robotics,

analytics, artificial intelligence, cognitive technologies, nanotechnology and the

Internet of Things (IoT), among others.

REVOLUTION 4.0 AND MUSIC

The industrial revolution 4.0 is an unstoppable fact that affects all sectors

transversally and music is no exception.

Revolution 4.0 has transformed the ways in which we know, listen to and share the

music of our interest, since the interconnection and decentralization of information

has allowed greater and better access to a whole musical diversity since the last
decade. This expansion has not only changed the relationship of consumers, but

also that of musicians with the management of their work, since there are many

ways to reach the target audience for their productions.

According to the Global Music Report 2022 of the International Federation of the

Phonographic Industry (IFPI), streaming services from digital music platforms such

as Apple Music, Spotify, Deezer, and Amazon Music represent 65% of the total

revenue generated by music productions. Worldwide and global sales revenue

increased by 31% in Latin America during 2021. In the same report, Frances

Moore states that every day, nearly 60,000 songs are uploaded by some digital

platform. In short, we are immersed in the digital music industry like never before.

With globalization, sound multiverses are experienced second by second by

multiple listeners and, in the same way, new artisan producers have had a

profusion of creations based on self-taught and self-managed mastering with free

or low-cost access platforms. This is how emerging, artisanal and free access

music is in full swing, even more so, after the pandemic, where it had exponential

growth.
In addition, the music in the air report produced by the giant investment and

securities group, Goldman Sachs, states that today we pay 40% less for recorded

music than in 1998 and that we listen to an average of 18.4 hours of music per

week. In short, musical digitization and the industry are aspects that cannot go

unnoticed by any current musician.
