Theory-based questions:

1.What do you see as the challenges in setting up a knowledge management system?

It's crucial to ensure that users are actually using a knowledge management system before

putting it in place. People who are accustomed to working in a particular manner and who do not

see the benefit of changing their habits may find this difficult. People may also be less likely to u

se a system if it isn't simple or intuitive to use. The system's continued relevance and upkeep

present another difficulty. People will be less likely to use the system if the data is out-of-

date or useless. The system needs to be updated often in order to ensure that the data is correct

and pertinent.

2.Identify the three major types of knowledge management systems. Provide two

examples of each.

Knowledge work systems, knowledge management systems, and intelligent approaches

are the three main categories of knowledge management systems.

1. Learning management systems, collaboration and social tools, and enterprise content manage

ment systems are all examples of enterprisewide knowledge management systems.

2. Knowledge work systems include virtual reality systems, financial investment

workstations, and computer(design) systems.

3. Intelligent approaches include data mining, hybrid AI systems, case-based reasoning, uncertai

n logic, artificial brains, genetic algorithms, and intelligent agents.

3.Briefly outline the knowledge management chain as it might apply to the online catalog

system of a public library.

There are several components in the knowledge management chain-

• Acquisition: For a library's online catalog, this entails converting the book data into a digital

format.

• Storage: This refers to the equipment used to store this data, which may include a central

server.

• Dissemination: The library would need to figure out how staff or members of the general

public can obtain the card catalog information.

• Application: This would entail integrating the card catalog into the library's operational

procedures. For instance, the card catalog could be connected to a borrowing system so that users

could check the card catalog to see if a book was checked out.

• Management and organizational tasks: This would involve leveraging the system with a card

catalog base for further services, possibly by connecting to a larger library system to share

resources, information, or book lending between systems.

Application Question -

1.A key business decision in your sporting goods manufacturing company is determining

what suppliers to use for your raw materials. How can you determine if a manager in

charge of selecting suppliers is making the best choice?

You should monitor supplier performance over time to ascertain if management is making the

optimal decision when choosing suppliers. Looking at parameters like cost, material quality, and

delivery time is necessary to achieve this. It's probably a good idea to choose a provider if they
consistently perform well on these measures. To find out if there are any concerns with the

suppliers, it's also critical to seek input from other departments of the company, such as

production and quality control.

Having a clear procedure in place for assessing and choosing suppliers can also help guarantee

that all suppliers are assessed consistently and equitably.

This procedure may involve performing site visits, checking references, and conducting

interviews. It is possible to guarantee that all vendors are assessed using the same criteria by

putting a formal process in place. In order to make sure that the chosen suppliers are meeting the

demands of the entire business, it is crucial to choose suppliers using data and to solicit feedback

from different parts of the organization.
