Lab Reporting

The Lab report should contain the following:

1. Title
Write a title. Opt for informative titles over cute ones.

2. Abstract
Compose an abstract. The purpose of an abstract is to communicate the content of your report in just a few
sentences. Sum up the entirety of your lab report in the format below---
i. Aims of experiment
ii. Methodology
iii. Important results
iv. Discussion/ implications of obtained results
v. +/- 250 words, bold and justified

3. Introduction
Write an introduction. Briefly review the relevant previous research on the topic and explain the hypothesis
in the prac
i. Background information on microbial control methods especially moist heat.
ii. Focus on the test microorganisms in relation to heat treatment and tolerance.
iii. Experiment aim/objectives.

4. Methods and Materials


Use this section to explain experiment and the methods you followed to conduct it. The protocol to these
methods in your own words.

5. Results
In general, graphs and tables are the easiest ways to show information. Your result trends might show that
something increases over time or that something decreases over time. On the other hand, your trends may
show that one thing does not affect another.
Your Results section will include several tables describing the experiment. Provide analysis for the data in
each of the tables. Correct table presentation:
i. Title
ii. Correctly formatted
iii. Data
iv. Key
v. Figure legend

6. Discussion and Conclusion
Write about the results of the experiment and any conclusions it led to or questions that it raised.
1. Moist heat
✓ Detailed trend description of amount of growth of each microorganism with time
✓ Detailed discussion of the mode of action of moist heat on each microorganism
✓ Comparison of results with literature in terms of similarity or differences.

7. References
i. Minimum of 5 references including correct in-text referencing
ii. Ensure their referencing style is consistent
