CLASS DISCUSSION

1. The media plays a crucial role in globalization by facilitating the flow of information, ideas, and
cultural influences across borders. Through mass communication channels, such as television,
internet, and social media, the media connects people globally, exposes them to diverse
perspectives, and contributes to the diffusion of knowledge, values, and trends, ultimately
shaping the interconnectedness and shared understanding among societies worldwide.
2. The globalization of media refers to the expansion and integration of media platforms, content,
and audiences on a global scale. It involves the dissemination of news, entertainment, and
cultural products across borders, leading to increased cultural exchange, shared experiences, and
the emergence of transnational media conglomerates. Simultaneously, the media itself acts as a
catalyst for globalization by promoting interconnectedness, facilitating global communication,
and amplifying cultural, economic, and political influences, ultimately shaping the dynamics of
the globalized world.
3. The globalization of culture refers to the spread and integration of cultural practices, values, and
products across different societies and countries, blurring traditional boundaries and creating a
more interconnected and culturally diverse global landscape.
4. There is a need to localize culture to ensure that cultural expressions, practices, and products
resonate with and reflect the unique values, preferences, and contexts of specific communities,
fostering a sense of identity, belonging, and cultural sustainability.
5. Technology is closely related to media as it provides the tools, platforms, and infrastructure
necessary for the creation, distribution, and consumption of media content, enabling the
transformation of information into various formats and facilitating its dissemination to a wide
audience.
6. Examples of religious practices include attending religious services, such as Mass in Christianity
or Salah in Islam, participating in rituals like baptism or the Hajj pilgrimage, observing fasting
periods like Lent or Ramadan, engaging in prayer and meditation, performing sacraments or
ceremonies, and adhering to specific dietary restrictions or practices dictated by religious
beliefs.
7. Peace is elusive because it requires not just the absence of violence, but also the resolution of
deep-rooted conflicts, addressing social inequalities, promoting understanding and empathy, and
fostering cooperative relationships among individuals, communities, and nations, which can be
complex and challenging endeavors.
8. The nature of conflict vis-à-vis religion is often rooted in differing interpretations, beliefs, and
practices, leading to disputes, tension, and even violence when religious identities and
ideologies clash, highlighting the complexity and sensitive nature of religious conflicts.
9. The relation of religion to technology is multifaceted, as technology can both shape religious
practices and beliefs, such as the use of digital platforms for worship or religious education,
while also presenting ethical and philosophical questions for religious communities to address in
the face of advancements like artificial intelligence or genetic engineering.
10. Religion holds importance to individuals as it provides a framework for meaning, purpose,
moral guidance, and a sense of belonging, helping to address existential questions, provide
comfort in times of difficulty, and foster a sense of community and identity.
