-Non-Verbal Communication

The sender is the person who wants to convey a message with the purpose of passing information and ideas
to others.
The message is the topic of the communication.
Encoding involves converting a subject matter that is theoretical and intangible (i.e. feeling loved or
respected) into symbols such as words, actions, pictures or gestures.
The communication channel is the means or method by which the message is sent. The channels include
face-to-face, letters, telephone, and social media formats (i.e. text, e-mail, Facebook, Instagram, etc.).
The receiver is the person who receives the message or for whom the message is meant for.

II. COMMUNICATIONS AND GLOBALIZATION
Learning Outcome
A. Explain how cultural and global issues affect communication
On a local and global level, communication as a whole represents culture, as it is its commodity.
Culture is instilled in us from a young age, and it is difficult, if not impossible, to abandon it
completely. The first code, the form of our thought, is given to us by our parents. What we say, do,
and build are all influenced by the way we think. Our differences and similarities are expressed in
our words and works, as well as our ways of living and thought. Both inside and between cultures.
Our traditions and the influences we are exposed to by inherent evolution or external influence
affect the way we think. Our logics, as well as stresses and appeals, influence the end result.
Globalization has a direct impact on global communication, which contributes to increased
consumer opportunities, cultural challenges, and the formation of a global culture. The natural,
technological, political, and financial aspects of the planet, as well as global connectivity, have all
been changed by globalization.

B. Appreciate the impact of communication on society and the world

Research, Read and Understand
1. What are the cultural and global issues that affect the society nowadays?
*Racism
*Global Pandemic
*Health issue
*Asian hate
2. What is the impact of communication in the society and the world?
Communication may play a critical role in fostering growth in today's climate of political and
socioeconomic change. Communication processes will enable both women and men to provide
information and expertise as a basis for change and innovation, make decisions about their own
livelihood, and thus increase their overall participation in development by fostering a dialogue
between rural people and other sectors of society. This is the information age, and the new
information revolution is dramatically increasing the ability to share information globally. The
invention of moveable printing in the middle ages and the transformation from an agricultural
to industrial early years of the nineteenth century have been used to compare the current
knowledge revolution. Despite the fact that economic liberalization has consolidated media
ownership in the hands of the few large corporations, the communication climate in developing
countries is shifting. Technologies and media are becoming more suited to the needs of rural
communities.
Activity: *Write a composition discussing the impact of globalization on how people
Communicate
It is now much easier to communicate with people on the other side of the planet than it was only
a few years ago. Satellites, fiber-optic cables, and the internet make sharing information with
people in various time zones and locations a breeze. Globalization has a direct impact on global
communication, which aids in the expansion of market opportunities, the removal of cultural
barriers, and the creation of a global village. Globalization and global connectivity have had an
effect on the world's natural, cultural, political, and economic elements.
*How social media make a history in your life
One post, one story; one share, and the number of people who see a particular post grows by
hundreds. Within this natural cycle, people can easily obtain up-to-date information from the
internet, including fashion, sports, celebrity news, foods, and even gossip. And, simply by acting in
this manner, people are building their own past in society through social media and social media
has become history in my life because it helps me to pass my boredom while in quarantine because
of the global pandemic.

B. Adopt cultural and intercultural awareness and sensitivity communication of ideas
Research, Read and Understand
1. Define the following
Cultural Globalization
Globalization, according to the WHO, is characterized as "an increase in the interconnectedness
and interdependence of peoples and countries." It is commonly understood to include two
interconnected elements: the opening of international borders to increasingly rapid flows of
goods, services, finance, citizens, and ideas, as well as changes in national and international
structures and policies that encourage or promote such flows.”
Cultural Sensitivity
The understanding of cultural differences is the first step toward cultural awareness. These gaps
are expressed in how different groups connect and relate to one another, as well as in
relationships with health-care providers.
Cultural Appreciation
It's a fascinating part of being alive today to be able to appreciate different cultures like
this. You gain knowledge. You pay attention. You make an effort to comprehend. You want to
uphold its values and customs. Not for personal gain—not for money, not for popularity, not for
the Instagram photo. But simply to pay respect to the community and its inhabitants.
2. What are the varieties of Spoken and Written Language?
Activity: * Five at least 5 countries and examples of their culture or beliefs
Europe:
In the afternoon, Europeans have "Tea time," which consists of coffee, tea, cake, and pastries.
There are significant differences in eating habits among European countries. If northern
Europeans prefer hearty dishes and often eat meats, cheeses, eggs, sausages, and bread for
breakfast, southern Europeans prefer a small sweet pastry.
America:
In America, eating habits differ greatly depending on which part of the world you are in. In the
United States, the day begins with a substantial breakfast. Breakfast staples in the United States
include pancakes, cereals, donuts, bacon and eggs, and hash browns. Burgers and fries are
sometimes served for dinner, as is a traditional American BBQ with steak and ribs. Cutting up
your meal into tiny pieces ahead of time and then consuming your whole dinner with only a
fork is a popular American practice.
Asia:.
Rice is used in almost every dish in Asia because rice cultivation is such a significant part of the
culture. It's not uncommon to get a bowl of sticky rice for breakfast. Because of the abundance
of fish and vegetables, the Asian kitchen is considered one of the healthiest in the world. Knives
are seldom used in Asian cuisine since most dishes are prepared with small cuts. Chopsticks,
knives, or spoons are the only options.
Africa:
Africans enjoy eating everything with the famous flatbread "Injera" and finishing almost every
dish with plant seeds and roots like "Maniok." They eat a lot of beef, pork, and lamb in addition
to Couscous. West Africans prefer fish and eat plantains or yams for most meals.
Australia:
There is a variety of beef in the Australian kitchen. Typical Australian dishes include beef, lamb,
and chicken, as well as more exotic meats such as kangaroo, emu, crocodile, and buffalo.

*How is cultural sensitivity shown? Examples

People who communicate with people from various cultures in a seamless manner by adhering
to the norms of that culture. They believe they should uphold their own beliefs while adapting
to those of other societies in which they communicate.
Ex: Some people love peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, although others despise them.
