Lesson 1: Background of R.A. 1425: Why is Rizal our Hero?

a. Explain the R.A. 1425

Republic Act 1425 also known as Rizal Law stated that institutions, and all schools are supposed to foster moral
character, personal discipline, civic conscience, and citizenship duties, All educational institutions must include courses
on Jose Rizal's life, works, and writings, particularly his books Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, in their curricula.

b. Explain how Rizal became a hero.

There was no single person or group of people who made the Greatest Malayan the people's favorite hero. Rizal was the
author of the book that helps the people of the Philippines to open their eyes to fought for freedom he chose a
nonviolent reform that contributed to his elevation to the status of greatest hero among his people.

d. Whom do you consider as present-day heroes? Why?

Everyone today is my present-day hero, in light of the fact that every one of us fought different battles every day. Every
person has a different story that will make them a hero in the people in their surroundings, their loved ones, and
themselves.

Renato Constantino's Veneration Without Understanding examines Rizal's historical origins to determine whether or not
he deserves to be our national hero. Considering Rizal's reformist beliefs, racial aspirations, concept of liberty, and
campaign for Filipino independence, the article offers an in-depth examination of how we might learn about Rizal's limits
and apply them to our own development. He was only attempting to demonstrate how limited our understanding of
Rizal is, and how this misunderstanding might be applied to current difficulties such as rejecting colonialism, achieving
sense of nationalism, and longing for liberation. Following the reading of both papers, I, as a reader and a Filipino, began

someone to be called a hero? The best chance Constantino has becoming a true hero is to take part in a revolution. I
admire his viewpoint, yet I believe with Malaya that this was not the sole criterion for true heroism.
