Do you hate housework? Are you too busy to take care of your carpets? Does the noise of your vacuum cleaner
drive you crazy? If your answers are ‘Yes’ – buy a robot cleaner!
Our new product is small but very clever. All you have to do is to programme the robot to clean the space you
want. Then just put it in the middle of the room and press the ‘ON’ button. It remembers everything that is in its
way, like doors, stairs and furniture. When it gets too close to them, it simply moves in another direction. And it’s
small enough to get under beds, sofas and chairs, leaving the floor under them clean! What’s more, it knows when
to get back to its base to recharge the batteries, and it moves so quietly that you can’t hear it at all!

Do you like chocolate? Sweet, creamy, tasty… – that’s what most people think of chocolate today. However, in the
past, chocolate was not just a delicious dessert – it played an important part in the religious and social lives of
people living in ancient times.
It was the Maya Indians, ancient people from Central America, who discovered the secret of cocoa. They mixed
cocoa beans with water and spices, which made a tasty chocolate drink. It was a luxurious product so they drank it
only on special occasions.
In the 15th century, Christopher Columbus brought cocoa beans from South America to Spain. The Spanish were
then the first Europeans to prepare a chocolate drink. They kept it secret so other European nations did not know
the taste of chocolate for the next two hundred years.
Yet, chocolate was only known as a drink then. A bar of milk chocolate was first produced after many years of
experiments in the 19th century in Switzerland. Now the Swiss make perhaps the best milk chocolate in the world
and they also hold the world record – they eat more than ten kilos of chocolate per person a year!

The carnival in New Orleans, Louisiana is one of the most famous carnival celebrations in the world. It starts on 6th
January, just after the Christmas season, lasts for about three weeks and finishes on Shrove Tuesday.
It’s the time of parades, balls and parties. The largest ones take place during the last five days of the festival. The
parades are organised by Krewes, groups of people who create floats – beautifully decorated platforms. When the
parades move along the streets, people on floats called float riders throw small toys to the crowd.
On the last day of the carnival, the Mardi Gras (‘Fat Tuesday’), nobody in the city of New Orleans goes to work.
Many people wear costumes and masks. Local high school bands join the parades and march through the streets
playing loud music. The Carnival is a time of joy and happiness. Even the terrible Hurricane Katrina in 2005 did
