(Double Standards)
The author, Julia Neff, studies and displays the intersection of feminism within fandoms. It
depicts the experiences of both male and female fans in fandoms, giving emphasis on what
women face within a patriarchal society such as misogyny, harsh criticisms, and double
standards. Neff also shows the cruel treatment and how this can have a lasting effect on the
people who experience these unfortunate situations. This study brings up the importance of
representation and how every person should be treated with fairness and equality.

(Gender)
The author discusses how gender can influence people's notions about how one should act or
behave. Both men and women are expected to display themselves in a particular way, setting
examples that may be harmful to their health and well-being. Multiple labels influence how
people view themselves and have long-lasting (usually negative) effects. These expectations are
mostly directed at women, emphasizing that "men should be taken more seriously compared to
women." This research highlights the significance of awareness and how gender shouldn't
influence our identity.
