ABSTRACT
This study aims to determine how students' understanding and awareness of plagiarism in
writing proposals by sixth-semester students in the English department at UIN Antasari
Banjarmasin, their reasons are also investigated in this study. A qualitative research method
was used and framed by questionnaires and online interviews were employed as data
collection techniques in this phenomenological research. The respondents were 27 students'
in the sixth semester in English department at UIN Antasari Banjarmasin. The result of the
study shows that students are aware of the act of plagiarism, then the reason they do
plagiarism is driven by several factors, namely laziness, wanting to finish quickly, and being
pressured by circumstances.
