What’s New (Page 4)

I. What does a picture tell?
1. What is the difference between the two pictures?
 The image from the left is showing us the bad posture when using a
computer while the image from the right shows detailed information on
how to work in a computer including the posture when sitting, data on
how we stare at the screen, and many more
2. How do you feel about the persons in the pictures?
 The person from the left image is having a bad posture making her
uncomfortable while working on her computer and she is very vulnerable
on having injuries. On the other hand, the person on the right image can
comfortably work in her workplace considering that she manage to
follow the proper postures.

2. Physical Hazard — A, B
3. Chemical Hazard — D, C
4. Mechanical Hazard — G, H
5. Biological — I, J

What I Have Learned (Page 7)

From the knowledge you gained on this part of the first lesson, create signage with
symbols on hazard prevention to stay safe at all times in a workplace.

What I can Do (Page 8)

1. Eyestrain – a common condition when working intensely or playing on some computer
screens that would affect the eyes from getting tired.
2. Electrocution – a hazard that can occur considering exposed wires in a workplace and
faulty lines.
3. Slips and trips – another type of hazards that invoke the obstruction and wires across
the workplace that can lead to falling
4. Risk of Fire – electrical equipment can have the potential of getting fire because of some
exposed wires.
5. Photosensitive Epileptic Seizures – it is a health risk caused by flashing or rapidly
changing lights.

What's New (Page 14)

Below is a video clip that will show importance of having some methods in order to keep
one’s self safe and healthy at all times even in a workplace.
What have you noticed in the video? What are the methods discussed?
• The video executed an animation along with the 5s methodology as the content
information of it. It explains the 5s methods in a workplace. Sort is the first “s” that has been
discussed which explains the things that should be kept in your workplace and sorting out the
unnecessary things in your desired workplace. Set in order is also one of the 5s that is needed
to be considered. It explains how you should be classifying things in a way you used them in
your everyday life. The third “s” is shine, keeping your workplace clean and tidy. Standardize
refers to how you should maintain your workplace. Sustain is the last “s” that should be
considered. It is in connection with standardize that invokes sustaining the workplace with the
standards you create.

What I Can Do (Page 16)
At this point, you are capable of determining the methods that can be used to maintain a
workplace safe and clean. Now, draw a desirable workplace (can be just a part of an office)
where you can see yourself working in a table with a computer and is very busy making a plan
for a residential building. In the drawing, we should be able to see that the five methods used
to prevent hazards and risks are being applied. (Use the next page for the drawing)

face or directly onto the computer screen.
3. Put the screen either at eye level or slightly lower.
4. Position the mouse as close as possible to the side of the keyboard.
5. Make sure the screen is not too close to your face.

What's More (Page 22)

Watch a video on how to prevent hazards and risks in using a computer especially in
preparing plans using CAD. Based on the video, give at least five ways of preventing hazards and
risks when working on a computer. Write your answers inside the balloons.
1. Clear screen image, stable, and free from glare and/or reflections.
2. The keyboard should be positioned with sufficient space to support the wrists.
3. To prevent muscle injuries or backaches, the chair should be fully adjustable.
4. The top of the screen is at eye level.
5. Regular changes in working position as well as periods of rest from the screen are
essential to avoid computer-related injuries.

doing the computer-aided drawing?
 I think the image shows safety procedure while working on a computer
considering that wearing a safety hat and with the arm resting comfortably.
