Concept Paper: Punk goes Pop Art

Design Concept

This residential interior gets its inspiration from pop art; Pop art is an art movement
started in the Britain in early 1950’s and Late 1950’s in the United States of America. Pop art
presented a challenge to traditions of fine art by including imagery from popular culture such as
advertising, news, etc. In Pop art, material is sometimes visually removed from its known
context, isolated, and/or combined with unrelated material.

The concept for this residential interior is a modern minimalist pop-art residential interior
which will display different kinds of graphical art from colourful comic strips to product
advertisements. This residential interior will be a white-box interior like a museum to give
emphasis to the colourful artworks and furniture display inside it. The Color scheme that will be
used is black and white for basic color and accent colors will be the color of the
paitings/artworks that will be used also, it will display and use different kinds of geometrical
shaped modern furniture

Design Strategy:

. In the living area, Walls will be painted in white; flooring material used will be white
porcelain tiles. Furniture that will be used are a black 3-seater sofa, side tables are located on
both ends of the sofa, one on each side, on the left a white circular table which has a
lampshade on top, and on the right a white square side table is use, a white square coffee table
placed on the center. In the Dining Area, Walls is the same as the living area it will be painted in
white, flooring materials used will be white porcelain tiles. Furniture that will be used is an 8-
seater dining table, 8 dining chairs, a black table cabinet, a modern white china cabinet. In the
kitchen, a sliding door is used to separate the kitchen area from the dining area, everything will
be in black and white. In the Den area/Guest Room, Walls will be painted in white, Carpeting is
used as a flooring material. Furniture used are a black 3-seater sofa, a white armchair, a study
table/desk. In the Home Theatre area, Walls will be painted in black, Flooring material will be
carpet. Furniture will be used are a white 3-seater sofa, 2 black circular side tables, 2 white
bean bag chairs, and a black TV stand. Every area will display pop art artworks.
