INTRODUCTION

Here in the Philippines arts refer to all the various forms of the arts that have
developed and accumulated in the Philippines from the beginning of civilization in the
country up to the present era. They reflect the range of artistic influences on the country’s
culture, including indigenous forms of the arts, and how these influences have honed the
country’s arts. These arts are divided into two distinct branches, namely, traditional arts and
non-traditional arts. Each branch is further divided into various categories with
subcategories.

One of the cheapest yet elegant to form arts are using local materials. Theses local
materials define as the resources that can be found readily in large quantity at a particular
location or area at a certain time. It could also be referred to as materials that can be used to
fabricate a finished element.

There are many known artists here in the Philippines, Fernando Amorsolo, Carlo
“Botong” Francisco, Guillermo Tolentino, Napoleon Abueva and mor. To be specific, here in
Nueva Ecija there’s an artist who uses local materials to make an art work. He is Ramon H.
Lopez, born in February 1983 in San Jose, Nueva Ecija and is a Filipino painter
and Indigenouism artist known for using rust as medium for his painting. He used indigenous
materials such as rust as his medium. He started to collect rusting objects from
trash, carefully segregating the rust particles which he uses for his art works. He decided to
become a rust painter and plans to create more artistic works in the future. He is assured
that his works will pass the test of times since he puts top coats in all his works.
