Example 1

Here are your photographs. They show people in stressful situations.

I'd like you to compare two of the photographs and say in what ways these situations are stressful and what can you do
to become less stressed in them.
You have a minute to do this.
In what ways are these stressful situations?
What can you do to become less stressed in these situations?

Candidate A:
I would like to talk about the picture of a man and a lady in the car. Both of them look stressed in different situations. The man
looks like a matured student taking his exams in an examination hall with the rest of the students while the lady is driving to work or
for an appointment. She is looking at her watch with one hand on the steering wheel. So I guess, she is in a rush and looks
anxious.
From the look of the matured student, it seems to me that he is having some difficulties with his paper or maybe he is running out of
time. It must be stressful for him because he has to complete his test paper in time or if he fails this exam, he will not be able to
graduate. However, the lady seems to be very stressed as she keeps looking at her watch most probably she has a meeting with
an important client. It could cost her, her job if she fails to clinch the business deal.
The man should have been more well-prepared for his tests whereas the lady perhaps should have better time management such
as leaving earlier for her appointment so that she would not be caught in the traffic jam.

Candidate B:
The other candidate's question:
Which of these situations would you find most stressful and why?
In my case, I find being caught in a bad traffic jam is very stressful especially if I have an important business meeting to
attend. It would not be a good impression to let everybody wait for me. So, I’d prefer to give myself ample time to arrive.
Example 2
Here are your photographs. They show people doing different free time activities.
I'd like you to compare two of the photographs and say why would the people choose to do these activities and what
problems could they encounter whilst doing them.
You have a minute to do this.
Why would the people choose to do these activities?
What problems could they encounter whilst doing them?

Candidate A:
I choose to talk about the first picture where the lady is meditating and the second one where the lady is doing rock climbing. The
similarity is both ladies are enjoying their free time doing what they like. I am not very sure but it seems to me the lady is doing
meditative yoga. This is evident by her two hands on her knees similar to what people do when they meditate. Although it is not
very clear, it looks like she is meditating on a platform with the sea behind her. Meanwhile the other lady is climbing a rock and she
looks really fit and strong with muscular arms and legs.
Most probably the lady loves meditating because meditation can give her a sense of calm, peace and balance that can benefit both
her emotional well-being and overall health. It is also a good way to relax and cope with stress. The other lady obviously like rock
climbing which is an extreme sport. It is likely that she is a health fanatic and through rock climbing, she gets to build a full body
strength as evident by the muscles on her arms and legs. She is definitely a risk taker too as there are no safety harness on her
body.
There shouldn’t be any major problem with the lady who is meditating. The worse that can happen is she might take a longer time
to get into a meditative state if she does not focus. Whereas, for the rock climber, if she misses a step, she could fall to her death
from such a height.

Candidate B:
The other candidate's question:
What type of activities do you like to do in your free time and why?
I don’t think any of the three activities appeal to me. Rock climbing is a definite no no because the stakes are too high.
Meditation is not for me too as I am not a person who can focus easily and I find board games boring.
If I have any free time, I think I would play soccer with my neighbours at the field in our neighbourhood. It is a good form
of exercise and a time to socialise with my neighbours. Most of time, we are busy and hardly have any time to hang out
together.
