I. Project Summary
A. Name of Enterprise

Figure 1. Logo of the Busy Bean Coffee

The Busy Bean Coffee got its name from the goal of providing Ready-to-Drink Corn
Coffee infused with Filipino flavors targeting ‘busy’ people whether it's because of their
work, studies, or simply because they want to take a break and relax while sipping on their
coffee-to-go.

B. Location

The Busy Bean’s coffee plant production will be located in Abagon, Gerona, Tarlac
along McArthur Highway. It is nearby the town's public market and supermarket
(Savemore, Gerona) that makes the ingredients and materials needed in making the
products very accessible. Since the product will be available through a delivery service
application, it can reach different areas of the target market around the Tarlac Province.
The delivery service application allows the product to be delivered to customers wherever
they are, as long as they are within the coverage area. It is also a smart way to drink
specialty coffee without leaving the house, especially during a pandemic.

The socio-economic impact of the project feasibility study has a positive impact on
the employee because it gives an opportunity to people to get a job. Since the Busy Bean
made sure that the café is legally registered to any government department, the café can
contribute to the tax of its LGU. Since the coffee is based on corn coffee and the coffee is
Filipino-infused, it is a way to support local farmers and promote local products.

F. Highlights of the Project

The Busy Bean is a home-based online business in which each partners are fully
responsible for the partnership's debts and commitments. The owners agreed to equally
share legal, administrative and financial liabilities.

The emergence of coffee industry has been rising recently so the Busy Bean takes
this opportunity to come up with a unique coffee product that aims to support local goods
while also providing healthful benefits and quality ready-to-drink corn coffee to young
adults (aged 16-30).

The Busy Bean Coffee products are as follows: Sweetened Condensed Milk Brew,
Pandan Brew, Coconut Water Brew, Mint Brew and Toasted Coconut Brew. The Busy
Bean's coffee specialty is their coffee base, corn coffee.

To help identify the demand for coffee, the proponents conducted an online survey
to further evaluate the feasibility of this study. Based on the data gathered, 90% or 90
individuals would avail the Filipino-infused ready-to-drink coffee that the Busy Bean offers.
Therefore, there is a good demand for corn coffee products.

For the business to be fully operational, a capital of ₱315,000 is required for start-
up costs as well as space and equipment. Since the business is home-based, the owners and
partners will have an equal fair share amounting to ₱65,000.00 each for the start-up costs.
The Gantt chart below shows the project implementation timetable:

G. Major Assumption and Summary of Findings

MARKET ASPECT

Demand is referred to as simply the quantity of a good or service that consumers are
willing and able to buy at a given price in a given time period. Based on the data acquired
by the proponents through an online survey, it is observed that there’s an unsatisfied
demand in caffeine-free coffee. Furthermore, the proponents were able to determine that
the majority of these respondents are willing to try the Busy Bean's product which is the
ready-to-drink corn coffee infused with Filipino flavors.
Since the market is dominated by young adults (aged 16-30), the majority of this
group are able to gain income putting their willingness to buy into reality. Digital
marketing and a partnership strategy with a delivery service application FoodPanda, will
be used for promotion. Considering that the target market is active on social media sites,
the promotion of the business will be through various platforms such as instagram and a
website. Moreover, the packaging strategy of the Busy Bean Coffee was analyzed and
chosen to give it a touch of minimalism and aesthetic design making the product attractive
to the market.

TECHNICAL ASPECT
The Busy Bean is a company in the Food and Beverage Industry that sells ready-to-
drink corn coffee in a 300ml bottle with five various flavors to choose from; Sweetened
Condensed Milk Brew, Toasted Coconut Brew, Pandan Brew, Mint Brew, and Coconut
Water Brew. The Espresso Machine is required for production, and its capacity is
approximately 8 hours per day and 192 hours per month. The Busy Bean's target daily
sales are 150 cups, thus proponents believe that 145 cup sales per day will result in 154
cups per day and 3686 cups per month, which is the optimal daily and monthly target sales.
. The Busy Bean will source the raw materials needed for production from local
supermarkets and grocery stores while some can also be bought through online stores
(Shopee, Lazada Ph).

FINANCIAL ASPECT
The Busy Bean Coffee Line’s costs of investment are determined by the sum of its
fixed assets, pre-operating expenses and working capital. Fixed assets or non-current
assets are tangible assets that are directly used in the operation of the business to generate
an income. While pre-operating expenses are the costs incurred during the formation of the
business. Working Capital determines the liquidity, operational efficiency, and its short-
term financial condition. The Busy Bean has a total project cost of ₱2,082,032.04 wherein
the net fixed assets cost ₱172,224.00, pre-operating expenses cost ₱ 13,018.00 and
working capital costs ₱ 1,156,570.04. Since The Busy Bean did not take any loan, its
operation is supported by the owners’ personal cash. For the beginning of the operation,
owners are to pay ₱65,000.00 each equivalenting to ₱315,000.00 as the start-up capital.
The net income increases by 6% every year which shows that there is a profitability in the
operation.

SOCIO-ECONOMIC ASPECT
The company is registered with all government departments and agencies, and the
company can assure taxes to the city government or the local government. The company
can also serve the local community in Tarlac by giving an opportunity to the local residents

Page | 11

with a job allowing them to support their families and lower the unemployment rate in the
country. The business can also give support to the local farmers given that the main
ingredient of the product is corn, it can also help promote the Filipino products because the
majority of raw materials needed in production are produced locally. Additionally, the
company will also ensure that the business will help in promoting environmental health
through proper waste disposal. In terms of social responsibility, The Busy Bean Coffee
assures the satisfaction of its potential customers by providing good quality products and
services.

MANAGEMENT ASPECT
The management structure used for the business is a functional structure.
Functional structure allows the members of the business organization to perform their
work respectively and efficiently since different tasks are given based on their
specialization. The Busy Bean has individuals for sales, operations, and marketing.

From the salary scale shown, the members of the organization have the same salary. Since
the members are also the owners, there is an equal distribution of salary. The members
salary is in line with the Department of Labor and Employment Philippines (DOLE)
minimum wage of 395.00 Php daily, multiplying it to 24 days, which is the number of
operating days in a month, resulting in 11, 850.00 Php.

II. Market Study

A. Product Description

Figure 2. Ready-To-Drink Corn Coffee

Coffee is a brewed beverage with a dark, slightly acidic flavor prepared from the
roasted seeds of the coffee plant from roasted and ground coffee seeds. It contains Caffeine
which keeps people awake and Tannin that provide health benefits due to their antioxidant
and anti-inflammatory effects such as accelerate blood clotting, reduce blood pressure,
decrease the serum lipid level, produce level necrosis, and modulate immune responses.

Coffee consumption is increasing worldwide and many of the café owners made a
way to market their product and beat their growing competitors. According to Sammogia &
Reindel (2019, March), consumers believe that drinking coffee makes humans energetic
and therapeutic and they are interested in buying coffee linked with health benefits.
However, some customers are caffeine sensitive or have a negative reaction to caffeine.

Corn coffee provides a number of health benefits and tastes like regular coffee. Yet,
unlike regular coffee beans, corn coffee is caffeine-free, so even caffeine-sensitive people
can enjoy coffee while also benefiting their health. Corn coffee contains carbohydrates,
fiber, ash, protein, and antioxidants in every 100 gram. Controlling diabetes, lowering
cholesterol levels, lowering the risk of colon cancer, lowering hypertension, preventing
cardiovascular disease, and preventing neural-tube defects in infants are some of the
health benefits corn coffee offers.

The Busy Bean Café came up with the idea of making corn coffee as the base
ingredients for the coffee drink they will be selling. The Busy Bean Coffee got its name from
the goal of providing coffee, infused with Filipino flavors for busy people whether it's
because of their work, studies, or simply because they want to take a break and relax while
sipping on their brewed coffee.

The Busy Bean Café is a Filipino-infused coffee shop that operates online. The
business offers a ready-to-drink coffee in a 300ml bottle. Customers can choose which
flavors they want to drink, such as this very Filipino flavor Sweetened Condensed Milk
Brew, in which the condensed milk adds a delectable taste to the coffee. The Toasted
Coconut Brew is the second flavor; the aroma and tang of the toasted coconut will give the
coffee a wholesome taste. The next flavor is Pandan Brew, which uses pandan syrup to give
the coffee a distinct taste. The mint syrup in the Mint Brew will give the coffee a minty fresh
flavor. Finally, there's the Coconut Water Brew, which is as refreshing as coconut juice but
in the form of a coffee drink.

Generally, the flavors made by The Busy Bean Café are very simple and unique at the
same time compared to the other coffee shops out there. Because The Busy Bean Café
wants to cater the Filipino infused flavor to the consumer.

The emergence of cafés has been rising recently so the Busy Bean takes this
opportunity to target young adults (aged 16-30). Since the majority of people in this group
are active on various social media platforms or the internet in general, it would be viable to
sell it to them and gain more potential customers by promoting the product through social
media platforms.

The ready-to-drink coffee will be available throughout Tarlac Province via Food
Panda, a food delivery service application.

Demand-Supply Analysis

Drinking corn coffee has many nutritive value and health benefits, “It can control
diabetes, prevent cardiovascular disease, lower hypertension, reduce cholesterol level,
minimize risk of colon cancer, and prevent neural-tube defects in infants.” (Chito Rodriguez
of the Institute of Plant Breeding at the University of the Philippines Los Baños)

Only 34% of the respondents have body sensitivity to caffeine. However, according
to the result of the survey, 90% of them are willing to try a caffeine-free coffee if it still
tastes the same as the regular coffee.

Page | 19
Republic of the Philippines

Rodriguez also said corn coffee looks and tastes like your good old caffeinated
coffee, but it is healthier to drink, especially those who do not have a good reaction to
caffeine.

III. Technical Study

A. The Product

Corn coffee provides a number of health benefits and tastes like regular coffee. Yet,
unlike regular coffee beans, corn coffee is caffeine-free.

The Busy Bean offers a Filipino-infused ready-to-drink corn coffee in a 300ml bottle.
Customers can choose which flavors they want to drink, such as this very Filipino flavor
Sweetened Condensed Milk Brew, in which the condensed milk adds a delectable taste to
the coffee. The Toasted Coconut Brew is the second flavor; the aroma and tang of the
toasted coconut will give the coffee a wholesome taste. The next flavor is Pandan Brew,
which uses pandan syrup to give the coffee a distinct taste. The mint syrup in the Mint
Brew will give the coffee a minty fresh flavor. Finally, there's the Coconut Water Brew,
which is as refreshing as coconut juice but in the form of a coffee drink.

G. Building Facilities

The Busy Bean's plant will rent the space from one of the business owners. Because the
building is already constructed, the renovation will be minimal. The areas are as follows:

 Receiving Area – the Receiving Area is responsible for receiving and inspecting the
materials to be used in manufacturing a product. This includes raw materials (i.e.,
coffee beans, ground corn, syrups, etc.), supplies (i.e., office supplies, tools and
equipment, packaging materials, etc.), and other manufacturing supplies.
 Main Office – the function of the main office is to receive, analyze, arrange, and
record information such as inquiries, issues/complaints, and reports. Planning,
managing, and organizing are some of the administrative and management duties it
addresses.
 Product Storage – an area where the ingredients/raw materials are stored,
perishable and non-perishable goods have separate storage to avoid spoilage. It is
an important facility since it ensures the quality of the goods and products that we
will provide to our customers.
 Equipment Storage – equipment storage's main function is to store and secure
equipment, tools, and materials in the warehouse. It also enables other working
areas to have enough floor space for the workers' comfort and the product's safety
throughout manufacturing.
 Cleaning/Disinfection Area – this area is where the tools are sanitized to prevent
any bacteria and viruses and to maintain cleanliness and ensure workers' and
customers’ safety on consuming the product.
 Order Preparation and Packaging Area – the production area of the product;
grinding coffee beans, preparing syrups/flavors for the coffee, toasting coconut, etc.
The packaging area is where the worker prepares the product to the shipping area
after sorting out the orders.
 Order Sorting Area – an area where the products are being sorted out according to
what the customer’s ordered.

I. Utilities

To be able to operate the production of Busy Bean Cafe, utilities are needed to maintain
the quality of the coffee and the quality of the service. The following are the utilities needed
to operate the Busy Bean Café:
 Electricity - Electricity is a major requirement for the Busy Bean Coffee because
most of our equipment is electrically operated and also to give proper ventilation on
the work area.
 Water - Water is a minimal use only, it is used for cleaning the equipment and
materials needed in the operation, and it is also used in making the coffee.
 Internet - Since we are an online based business, an internet connection is a must to
be able to communicate with the customers.
 Gas - Gas is a minimal use, only when there are ingredients that need to roast.

J. Waste Disposal

The common waste produced by The Busy Bean Cafe is mostly household waste
such as plastics, cans and cartons from the packaging and container of the ingredients and
the coffee residue from the corn coffee beans.
A proper waste disposal must be implemented to avoid environmental damage and
future damages to human health and to the society. The following are the ways of The busy
Bean Cafe to treat its waste.
 Segregate solid waste from liquid waste.
 From the solid waste, segregate the biodegradable and non-biodegradable
waste.
 The biodegradable waste like the coffee residue can be reused as a fertilizer
for the indoor and outdoor plants.
 The non-biodegradable waste should be disposed of properly by locating a
waste disposal site or sold in the junk shops.

The proponents assume an increase of 8.65% in production costs as well since there is
an expected increase in sales provided all the engagement in the marketing program thus
making the product gain its identity in the market. The gain of cost might be caused by
increasing usage of materials and resources as the expected increase in sales happens.

Table 26. Employment and Income

The Busy Bean can contribute to the government through the assurances of taxes
earned by the company’s sales as well as taxes through employee wages. The company can
also help in giving job opportunities in order to lower the country’s unemployment rate.

Because the Busy Bean sells Filipino-infused ready-to-drink corn coffee, the company
can also help local farmers and producers sell more goods because the majority of the raw
materials used in production are produced locally and readily available in the Philippines.
Farmers harvest the main ingredient, ground corn, locally as well.

Lastly, since the Busy Bean Coffee is providing a Ready-to-Drink Corn Coffee infused
with Filipino Flavors it will greatly assist and have a significant impact in supporting and
promoting Filipino culture and products. Furthermore, the company can help the
environment by properly disposing of waste during operations.

VII. Environmental Impact Analysis

The proponent identified waste and the best way to dispose of it. The wastes recorded
are mostly from household waste such as plastics, cans and cartons from the packaging and
container of the ingredients and the coffee residue from the corn coffee. The waste can be
disposed of by segregating solid waste from liquid waste and biodegradable waste from
non-biodegradable waste, and when non-biodegradable waste is determined, it is assessed
if it is recyclable and can be sold into junkyards or can be disposed to local disposal units
such as garbage collectors, while biodegradable waste such as coffee residue can be reused
as organic fertilizer for plants, and liquid waste that is from cleaning materials is disposed
in a proper drainage. Since, the waste generated can be disposed properly with the
proponents and neither can the business be located in an environmentally critical area
there is no need for further documentation of Environmental Impact Analysis.
