GENDER FAIR-WORDS
List down word (as many as you can) that you think are not gender fair from what
you have watched or read. Opposite each word, think of another term that could be
use to promote gender fairness in mass media.

The Highway Patrol Group (HPG) of the Philippine
National Police (PNP) yesterday deployed 40 motorists
along EDSA to assist in anti-crime operations and ease
traffic congestion along the thoroughfare.
 Instead of saying female riders, you can use the
word “motorists or simply riders”, since motorists
could be female too and females can also drive and
be on the road contrary to misconceptions that
women can’t drive and are bad drivers
We all know that much has changed since Covid-19
happened. Working from home, wearing a mask, having
to do SafeEntry scans everywhere, the list goes on. For
flight attendants/cabin crew members, they now have
to grapple with even more things to do and take note of
when they are working in the aircraft
 Stewardess is an outdated term and that was used
during the time were females are usually hired as
flight attendants. Since increasing number of males
are applying in the field, the proper term preferred
today is flight attendant or cabin crew members,
the term also prevents their profession to be called
as waitress or air hostess which can become
offensive for some
The Philippine business process outsourcing (BPO)

shortage, according to the Technical Education and Skills
Development Authority.
 Though ‘manpower’ can already be gender-neutral,
and can be a general term referring to men and
women in the workforce, a more politically correct
and gender neutral word to be use depending on
context is worker/personnel to avoid biases
specially when talking to industries dominated by
men.

passengers or everyone can be use as airline
greeting to announcements to avoid gender
specific phrases and promote a more inclusive
language

 The term spouse is more acceptable to use since it
can show neutrality and can refer to either person
in marriage whether husband or wife

 The term “faggot is an offensive and derogatory
term, therefore it can be replaced by gay people as
an umbrella term referring to people part of the
lgbtqia+ community
