Reflection on contemporary issues
Moranchapalle village in Jayashankar Bhupalpally
Moranchapalle village in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district was among the
worst affected after the entire village got submerged as the Moranchavagu
stream nearby was in spate. According to state government data, 10,696
people from 108 villages, including 600 from Moranchapalle, were shifted to
safer locations at the end of the day. Given the incessant rains and forecast
of similar rain for Thursday, the entire state administration was put on high
alert.
Problems faced by villagers eavy rain can cause pooling, overflowing
rivers and runoffs, and flooding. These events may result in
evacuations, power outages, supply shortages, traffic obstructions and
road closures, infrastructure damage and debris.
How can that problem be solved
Ensure storm drains near your house are clear and free of
debris.
Clear eave troughs and ensure they are pointed down and away
from your home and foundation.
Make sure that you and your family are as prepared as possible
in the event a flood occurs.
Opinions:-
1. Knowing your community’s evacuation route and warning
signals, and identifying areas prone to flooding or landslides.
2. Chlorinating or boiling all water for drinking and food preparation
Ensuring uninterrupted provision of safe drinking water is the
most important preventive measure to be implemented following
flooding, in order to reduce the risk of outbreaks of water-borne
diseases.
