Theme/Topic: Spanish Alphabet. El Abecedario

Rationale: In this lesson, students will be learning the Spanish alphabet in order for them to
know how to spell words.

Common Core State and/or NC Essential Standards: 1.1, 1.2, 1.3

Behavioral Objectives / Performance Objective


Students will 1. Say and write name, words and spell them for someone by
able to: memorizing the Spanish alphabet.

2. Ask someone what his/her name is and how to spell it by using


simple phrases.
Student Friendly Objective or Essential Question:

It is an important lesson today since you are going to learn the Spanish alphabet. Since Spanish is a
PHONETIC language, you will be able to spell a word the way it sounds, unlike English that does
not always spell the way it sounds. How do you spell your name?

Time: Lesson Activities
Introduction to the Lesson:

(Hook/Review/Intro.)

1. Students pick up lesson packet.

2. Warm-Up (Hazlo Ahora): Students copy their answers in the binder.

Complete each statement.

1. Me llamo… a. a Maricela

2. Te presento…. b. gusto, señor

3. Mucho…. c. Walter

3. Teacher checks homework from students' binder.

4. Teacher asks students to open the guided notes. Each student reads a
word in Spanish to make a point that Spanish is a PHONETIC language.
This means that it is spelled the way it sounds—unlike English.
Teacher Input/Modeling:

1. Teacher uses the PowerPoint presentation to teach the Spanish


alphabet.

2. Students take some notes about the extra letters in the alphabet using
the guided notes.

3. Teacher says the letters in Spanish and students listen.

4. Teacher repeats the letters in Spanish and students repeat after her.

5. Teacher says some words (PowerPoint) for students to listen to the


pronunciation.

6. Teacher repeats the alphabet in Spanish one more time.

Guided Practice:

1st time just have students listen.

2nd time have students listen and look at the page in their guided notes as they
follow along.

3rd time have students try to sing along

2. Teacher practices spelling words with students (PowerPoint)

3. Whiteboard competition (PowerPoint.) We will be having a


COMPETITION to see which side of the room can spell a word correctly in
Spanish the fastest. There are 10 questions, and I will SPELL the word in
Spanish. You must WRITE it on your whiteboard ASAP. I will nod if yours
is correct, or shake my head if it is not. The first side of the room with
100% correct wins prizes.
Independent Practice:
1. Students form groups of three to complete activities 9 and 10 in their
guided notes.

1. Teacher circulates the room to check students' speaking activities.


Closure of the Lesson:

1. Teacher asks students to take a piece of paper to do some practice.


She will collect them for assessment. (Activity: Cómo se escribe in
PowerPoint)

2. Teacher does a Listening Spelling Be. Students copy their answers in


the paper. (Exit ticket)

Plans for Individual Differences

Early Finishers: Teacher encourages students to go back and review their notes of the alphabet. Teacher
asks students to spell some words.
Late Finishers: Students can finish the rest of the activities at home plus watch some videos that are
located in teacher’s website.

I would adjust the lesson plan to suit their needs based on their specific accommodation plan and
information I’ve inferred based on their progress in my class.

to correctly spell words in Spanish.
