Praise be to Allah SWT who has given his grace and guidance so that i can complete the
assignment of this paper entitled Definition and Scope of Phonology and Phonetics research on
time. the purpose of writing this paper is to fulfill the task in the field of Phonology Course. We
would like to thank Mrs. Sri Suci, as a lecturer in the Phonology course who has given this
assignment so that he can add knowledge and insight according to the field of study that we are
engaged in. I also thank all those who have shared some of their knowledge so that I can
complete this paper. i realize that the paper I wrote is still far from perfect. Therefore, I will look

CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

A. Background

Phonology is a branch of linguistics that studies the sounds of language, the process of
formation, and its changes. Phonology examines language sounds in general and functionally.
Phonology is part of the science of language that studies sound. The first object of
phonological study was a language sound (font) called a phonetic and the second examined a
phoneme called a phoneme. There are many theoretical studies of this language. One of them is
the study of phonology. A prospective educator should understand the study of phonology to
be used as a guideline to teach Indonesian lessons. The compiler felt the need to compile this
paper in order to help the compiler in particular and readers, in general, to know about the
limitations and studies of phonology, some understanding of the sound system, phonetic
studies, phonemic studies, symptoms of Indonesian phonology.

A. Anatomy of vowel phonemes (monophthongs) in English
Monophthong is a group of letters that have one sound or single
sound. Monophthongs are included in the vowel section. Monophthong
sounds in English consist of 12 symbols. That is :
1. /æ/ contoh kata :

 Sat / sæt/
 Man /mæn/
 Black /blæk/

2. /e/ contoh kata :

Phonology is a branch of linguistics that studies the sounds of language, the process of
formation, and its changes. Phonology examines language sounds in general and functionally.
Phonology is part of the science of language that studies sound. The study of phonology provides
a better understanding of the correlation between the motor cortex, cranial nerves, and the
articulatory organs.
