The Department of Education (DepEd) in the Philippines has launched a new initiative called
"MATATAG" to tackle the challenges in the country's basic education system. The acronym
stands for "Bansang Makabata, Batang Makabansa," which means "A Nation for the Youth,
Youth for the Nation." The focus of MATATAG is to enhance foundational skills and incorporate
peace competencies in the curriculum, creating more resilient schools and classrooms,
strengthening inclusive education programs, advocating for additional benefits for teachers,
providing professional development opportunities, and much more.
Multi-grade classes can be instrumental in achieving the objectives of the MATATAG agenda.
Such classes offer a platform for students to exchange knowledge and skills, enhance their
social abilities, foster a more inclusive learning atmosphere, and minimize the requirement for
additional classrooms.
"Bansang Makabata, Batang Makabansa" is a new battle cry for the basic education sector in the
Philippines. The aim is to provide better learning opportunities for all children and make them the
focal point for improving the country's education system. As they say, "the youth is the nation's
wealth." This initiative also aims to support teachers in promoting the well-being of learners in a
positive learning environment, face.
Although the sources I found did not explicitly mention the role of Non-Government
Organizations (NGOs) and Local Government Organizations (LGUs) in achieving DepEd's
MATATAG AGENDA, it is reasonable to assume that these organizations can significantly
contribute to the agenda's implementation. NGOs can provide additional resources, expertise,
and support to help DepEd achieve its goals, while LGUs can ensure the effective and efficient
delivery of basic education facilities and services.
