Topic 1: Gender Equality and

Women's Rights

According to a new World Bank report, the


global pace of reforms towards equal
treatment of women under the law has
fallen to a 20-year low, with only 34 gender-
related legal reforms recorded across 18
countries - the least since 2001.
In a speech on Monday, the UN secretary-
general said the goal of gender equality will
take 300 years to achieve.
Pakistan registered a higher score this year
because it enacted legal reforms in the
entrepreneurship sector that enable women
to register a business in the same way as
men.
Women, disabled individuals, and those
under 16 accused of non-bailable offences
are to be granted bail as per rule.
The decision to grant bail to accused
women and juveniles will set a precedent
for future cases and protect them from
spending a long time languishing in jails for
petty crimes or acts they haven't even
committed.

Topic 2: Humanitarian Crisis in


Afghanistan
6. Afghanistan remains the world's largest
humanitarian crisis this year, with 28 million
people now dependent on aid for survival.

Topic 3: Child Rights and
Welfare
7. According to the National Commission on
the Rights of Child, there are 1.5 million
street children in Pakistan, and the number
is rapidly rising.

Homeless or street children spend their


time out of their homes and schools in
unsafe conditions and are vulnerable to
exploitation.
The Punjab police have signed an MoU with
four government and private institutions
working for the rights and welfare of
children to enhance homeless children's
prospects.
Most street children receive insufficient
nutrition and water, lack medical care, and
fall into drug abuse and other criminal
activities.
Under the rehabilitation programme,
orphan girls will be taken to SOS village, and
other homeless children will be referred to
the child protection bureau. Children
involved in begging will be brought to
schools of the Care Foundation, and justice
will be sought for crimes against children
and children involved in begging.

Kashmir.

The Afghan Taliban took out IS-K's top
leader, who was also its military and
intelligence chief. Another IS-K person
working for a subcontinental terrorist outfit
has been arrested.

Topic 6: Israel-Palestine
Conflict
20. Israel-Palestine conflict - Israel has
promised to halt the authorization of new
Jewish settlements in the West Bank for six
months. Around 200 persons were killed in
2022 due to political resolve to the two-
state solution being in doldrums.

Corruption in Lahore, Pakistan
