Apply for a passport

What you need to send


You must send original documents - we can’t accept photocopies.
Your application will be delayed if you don’t send everything we need.

Applicant’s documents
Send the following:
naturalisation or registration certificate
if this applies, any court orders relating to the child (for example that
describe parental responsibility or residency arrangements)

If you’re caring for a child in the absence of anyone with parental


responsibility or court involvement, send the following:
evidence to prove your responsibility for the child – if you aren’t sure
what documents you need contact the Passport Adviceline (/help)

If you’re a social worker applying for a child under the care of social
services, send the following:
evidence to prove your responsibility for the child – read the guidance
for social workers applying for a child (/help/children-acts-guidance) to find
out what documents you need

If any of the following apply, you need to send additional documents

include a professional, or other title on your passport


apply for a British National Overseas (BNO) passport
apply for a passport under treaty rights – this means the parents of the
person applying for a passport are EU, EEA or Swiss nationals (or are
the dependant family member of an EU, EEA or Swiss national) who
exercised free movement rights in the UK as a worker, self-employed
person, jobseeker, student or self-sufficient person
change your gender on your passport
