MINIATURE'S DEN PATREON GUIDES:
ANNIHILATOR
PRIME
Gold NMM
PAINTS USED
IN THIS GUIDE
Reaper: Russet Brown, Uniform Brown, Marigold
Yellow
PART 1
The gold details where done with Reaper Russet Brown.
I then used Reaper Uniform Brown to sketch all the areas of non-deep shadow, effectively painting what
will be the "midtone of shadow" or "first shadow" leaving the basecoat in the recesses and darkest
areas.
Notice how I basically re-basecoated entirely some areas, like the scales of the belt or the lion's head
on the chest. This was done because I knew I was going to have a lot more contrast on those areas as
they are in "focus", meaning they are in parts of the model where I wanted the light to shine brighter to
direct the viewer's attention towards them. By painting these areas entirely with color, I initially reduce
contrast, but set myself up to have bigger and stronger lights in these areas.
PART 2
In this picture you can see the effect of what I mentioned previously. I applied Reaper Marigold Yellow as
an highlight. Since I allowed myself to occupy more space with the color used in step one, I could paint
bigger highlights on those areas, making them feel brighter.
This highlight was painted also inside of the area of the previous.
PART 3
By adding white to the Marigold Yellow I could finally sketch the strongest light, using it to paint the
edges all over the gold as well as highlighting the previous step over the volumes in the areas of the
chest, further pushing contrast and brightness there.
