TY LOGAN
FROM YOUR CHILDREN’S PASTOR TLOGAN@EASTMONT.ORG

Growing up, my family had this book series called Trailblazer Books. They were children’s books that told the
stories of Christians who made huge impacts around the world. The back of all the books would read,
“Thrilling adventure stories introducing young readers (ages 8-12) to Christian heroes of the past.” There were
missionaries, Reformation leaders, abolitionists, and others in this series. I remember reading about Mary
Slessor in Nigeria, Amy Carmichael in India, Martin Luther in Germany, and so many others who did many
noteworthy things for the cause of Christ. I remember after reading these stories, I would be so fired up for all
the things that God would use me to accomplish.
Fast forward to now, I have not done anything worthy of being written in a book. I haven’t preached to
thousands; I haven’t brought Jesus to an unreached people group and seen them all saved; I haven’t done any
of the things that I read about in those books as a child. I’ve had to fight this idea of comparison all my life.
This sinful thought of, “I’m not doing as big of things as this person, or this person, or this person,” creeps in. I
have to remind myself over and over that my ministry matters and my mission matters.
As born-again believers we all have a common mission and a ministry, yet none of them look the exact same.
God has gifted us with unique gifts and talents to be used for His glory for the mission of making disciples. In
Ephesians 4, Paul tells the church of Ephesus that the leaders of the church were responsible for “equipping
the saints for the work of ministry.” We all have a part to play, and what you do matters. For those teaching
LifeGroup classes, your ministry matters. For those keeping the preschoolers, your ministry matters. For those
helping with food, maintenance, mission trips, music, technology, giving, witnessing to neighbors, your
ministry matters. Whatever your ministry is, It Matters. Eastmont, don’t get caught up with comparison, but
instead, continue to be faithful in what the Lord has called you to do.
