Exploring the Struggles of Student Council President in Senior High School

INTRODUCTION

Exploring the challenges facing the student council presidents in Senior High

School is the focus of this action research project. These are the difficulties of a student

leader faces, according to our observations; It was never simple to be a student leader.

More hard work, perseverance, and patience are required. It’s common to feel pressure,

fear of failure and disappointment, etc. We watch them working on their tasks all the

time and look up to them since they serve as an example for everyone. It is quite

demanding to be a student leader. For our entertainment, they will plan and organize a

variety of activities. They will organize events for us to increase our self – esteem in our

range of abilities. They’re going to make a project suggestion that everyone can get

behind. To discipline us, they will create rules and regulations. They will also take the

lead in bringing us all together. You should remain committed to our goals as a rising

leader. Not only will gaining leadership abilities improve your role as a student, but it will

also increase your capacity to better both your own and other people’s lives.
ACTION RESEARCH QUESTIONS

This study seeks to answer the following questions:

a. What are the profiles of the student council presidents in Senior High

School?

b. What are the struggles of student council presidents in Senior High

School?

c. What are the advantages of student council presidents in Senior High

School?

d. What are the disadvantages of student’s council presidents in Senior

High School?

e. How does the student council president manage the stress brought by

the issues or challenges in leading Senior High School Students?


REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

A student council president from Malayan High School of Science in stated that

she faced difficulties managing her time between academic work and extracurricular

activities, prioritizing events over exams, and maintaining her role model for the

implementation of the school’s core values (malayanscience.edu, 2015). According to

the senior high school student leader from Malaysia, I saw that the difficulties she

encountered are equally present in the Philippines.

Additionally, according to Crist’s (2017) observations, there are five issues that

face student leaders in the academy consistently: collaboration, communication,

managing group conflict, maintaining positivity within the organization, and juggling the

demands of other commitments. According to the researchers, San Antonio National

High School’s student leadership has some experience with these difficulties.
ACTION RESEARCH METHODS

RESEARCH DESIGN

This study is action research by design. Action research design is educational

research involving the information about the struggles of a student council presidents in

Senior High School.

SITE

The action research will be conducted in San Antonio National High School,

Ozamiz City, particularly in Senior High School.

PARTICIPANST

The participants of this research study is a Grade 11 Learner who is a student

council president in San Antonio National High School. In selecting the participants of

this research. The learners is chosen purposively based on her experiences.

DATA GATHERING METHOD

In this research study, the data will be collected through a one – on – one

interview with the participants.
