Teaching for the first few months of the quarter seems like surreal, considering that
it is the first batch of the face-to-face learning after the halt of pandemic. Students took a
mile to adjust while some sailed smoothly. Regardless of it all, still a learning gap was
visible for the first few months. In order to bridge these gaps, the teacher look for applicable
ways to address and monitor each learner’s performance. Through the help of the strategies
used in the lesson plan in which it centralized the learners’ ability. Using ICTs in teaching
also helped a lot to achieve the objective stated in the lesson plan. Bits of information from
some social media platforms were also used to catch the learners’ interest and used it to
convey the lesson. Follow-up questions were asked to test the initial participation of the
learners, and which proceeded to a more complex questions to deepen the intellectual
abilities of the learners. The lesson was also aided with a short quiz to test their knowledge
on the lesson and was given a homework to ensure learning continuity at home.

Grade 9 – LAWAAN

The learners actively engaged in the lesson, which focused on various ways of
expressing emotions as part of the learning objective. The intriguing and enjoyable
introduction to the lesson acted as a catalyst for their enthusiasm throughout the session.
All activities were thoughtfully designed to allow the learners to explore and discover the
lessons on their own. They even had the opportunity to enact different emotional
situations, showcasing diverse methods of expressing feelings. Encouraging learners to
think and explore the lesson independently fosters the development of their skills. These
valuable skills can accompany them on their life-long journey, influencing their decisions
and boosting their self-confidence. Equipping learners with such abilities promotes natural
learning flow and helps address any knowledge gaps, ultimately enhancing the quality of
education they receive.

To assess comprehension, a question was posed to the learners, prompting them to

consider practical applications of the various emotional expressions in real-life scenarios
and how such skills can benefit them. This approach ensures that the learners genuinely
grasp the material presented. As always, a quiz was administered to evaluate their
understanding, and homework was assigned to maintain continuity in their learning
process.

Grade 9 – KENNEDY

Teaching literature can be a challenging task, especially in a class where Filipino is

not the students' first language, creating a double hurdle for the teacher. To overcome this
obstacle and help students grasp both the subject and the language, the lesson focused on
teaching context clues as a means of understanding the language better, aligning with the
lesson's objective. By employing this approach, learning became more effective, and
students found themselves enjoying the lesson. The introduction of context clues served as
a stepping stone to a larger lesson: the exploration of epics. As we know, epic literary pieces
can be lengthy and filled with complex words, but by mastering the skill of identifying and
using context clues, learners were better able to comprehend, appreciate, and even grow
fond of the literary work, as well as the language and subject as a whole. To ensure
comprehension, the teacher provided numerous examples for the learners to analyze,
incorporating them into Formative Assessments to gauge their understanding and
application of the lessons.

Grade 9 – LAWAAN

During the fourth quarter, the focus of the curriculum is on reading and delving into
the novel, "Noli Me Tangere." This literary masterpiece holds great pride as one of our
national gems, penned by our esteemed national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal. Grade 9 learners
eagerly anticipate this quarter, drawn by the novel's intriguing narrative, hidden messages,
and the rich historical context that surrounds it. The novel's profound impact on our
history, both past and present, is also explored, along with the social issues it addresses.
The teacher's approach to teaching the novel goes beyond merely recounting the events
within it. Instead, the lessons also encompass a deeper examination of the social issues
depicted and their relevance to our society. This thoughtful approach ignited the learners'
curiosity and interest, prompting many of them to voluntarily engage in reading and
learning from the novel. To further enrich the experience, the teacher provided additional
insights and inputs, ensuring that all activities remained learner-centered and captivating.
The seamless flow of learning facilitated the introduction of various activities, reigniting the
learners' thoughts and fascination with the novel. Eagerly participating in both in-class and
take-home activities, the learners demonstrated their enthusiasm for exploring the depths
of "Noli Me Tangere."

I personally considered it as an honor to be invited as a guest speaker. Most

especially if I’ll be speaking to share some knowledge that can help build up and improve
and ensure both the teachers’ and learners’ capabilities. In my own little way, I can be an
instrument to achieve something that all of us can benefit.

Mentoring Pre-Service Teachers

(Student Teachers for MSU-IIT taking up BSED Filipino)

Guiding and mentoring Student Teachers is just a simple way to help

those who dreams to become a full-pledged teacher. My own mentoring skills does not only
focus on how to teach properly and deal with students’ behavior and learning style, but,
also on how to love and respect the craft that they wanted to pursue. A few advices and
encouragements are what these future teachers need from a critique teacher. In this way,
we can say that we are involved in molding them to become a best teacher for the country.
