PREFACE

The magnitude of English mastery urgency has made the author

of this book formulating guidelines provided for students. It aims making

learners to comprehend and apply what they have gotten in English class

into their lives.

Consequently, the book is composed to provide enlightenment for

early age English teachers on how English should be taught and how to

understand the children’s development process. These are efforts to

optimize the teaching learning process. This book can be utilized by

teachers who will teach English for elementary school students; parents

who will start teaching English to their children; and parties who will open

non-formal education institution.

The author is aware that this handbook is still far from

perfection and has weakness in some aspects. Therefore, criticism and

suggestion are welcomed for the improvement of this work. This

worksheet, hopefully, would give significant benefit among teachers,

students, as well as people in general who read it.

PERSONAL BRANDING

Personal branding is about taking responsibility over how you present

influencer within your niche, self-branding can help increase your

reputation as a leader. By showcasing unique character traits and having

an active presence online, you can work towards building a personal brand

that resonates with people all over the world.

Tips to create an awesome personal brand

Start building a personal brand from identifying your target

audience and industry

Be an expert in your industry

Share your expertise to be visible and accessible

Develop a strong value proposition

Choose main channels of communication with your audience

Use your social media accounts to increase trust

Practice two-way networking

Be yourself and develop your personal style

Practice your rhetoric skills to speak at conferences

Create Q&A sessions to answer questions from your audience

The importance of personal brand is undeniable when it comes to building

your professional image and reputation. You need a good branding

strategy and consistency in all your steps.

PUBLIC SPEAKING

Public speaking skills refer to the talent of effectively addressing an

audience. Whether it is in front of a group of people you already know or

a crowd of complete strangers, your ability to communicate to them with

clarity and confidence is known as your public speaking skills.

There may or may not be an opportunity for interaction between the

speaker and audience. The basic difference, however, between a casual

talk and public speaking is that the latter is more purposeful and meant

for celebratory, entertainment, influencing, or informative purposes.

Public speaking is a great way of building personal development on many

levels, since improving communication skills is helpful in almost every area

of life. Whether your goal is to engage in political debate, make a career

as a motivational speaker or gain confidence in front of an audience,

public speaking can help you meet your goal.

Good public speaking skills can have a huge impact on your career for

the following reasons:

Demonstrates your knowledge. You are always at your best when

you can articulate your thoughts clearly and effectively. Public

speaking skills help you do exactly that. After all, the true worth

of the knowledge you possess can only be realized when you can

show and apply it.

7
Demonstrates your confidence. Not only does public speaking

increase your knowledge during the process of preparation but it

also develops and demonstrates your confidence. Whether you

are interviewing for a job or hoping for a promotion, your

confidence is what will make you stand out among other

candidates.

Helps you lead better. The higher you climb up the career

ladder, the greater will be the number of people you shall have

to lead. As a result, the need for public speaking skills and the

confidence pertinent to it also increases, making it one of the

determining characteristic when considering someone for

promotion.

Following are some helpful tips for improving your public speaking

skills:

Prepare with practice. Once you have prepared a presentation

or speech by giving it a logical flow and making it more vibrant

with the addition of examples, stories, and visually appealing

props, only then your true preparation begins. If you are

wondering what that means, remember that practice is the key

to preparation. Practice your speech/presentation alone or seek

to speak in front of other people until you can speak fluidly with

confidence and comfort. This may sometimes require you to

tweak your words during practice but it’s preferable to do so in

8
practice instead of doing so at the occasion where you intend to

take the mike.

Accentuate your strengths. Analyze yourself as a public speaker

and identify your true strengths and weaknesses. Most of us

tend to imitate other public speakers who are popular amongst

the crowd. However, the best way is to be yourself and focus on

your own strengths. For instance, you might have a good sense of

humor that helps in grabbing attention of the crowd, you may be

an interesting story teller, or you may be good at clearly

explaining complex ideas. Whichever is your strength, utilize it

wisely to keep your audience paying attention.

Keep your ears and eyes open to feedback. Although, all sorts

of public speaking do not involve direct interaction between the

speaker and his audience, there are various ways in which

audience is able to provide feedback. If the audience cannot

speak their opinion out loud, as a speaker you should be able to

look for nonverbal cues such as the body language or facial

expressions of the audience. The feedback, thus, provided by the

audience can prove to be a helpful guide in improving one’s public

speaking skills.

9
HOW TO BE MC

A master of ceremonies (also known as an MC or emcee) is the official

host for a staged event, performance, or party. Normally, a master of

ceremonies introduces speakers, makes announcements, and engages

with the audience to keep the ceremony agenda flowing as smoothly as

possible. While being a master of ceremonies might seem like a daunting

task, there are a few ways you can nail your responsibility as MC, and

radiate confidence and charisma to keep the ceremony entertaining for

all.

10
Preparing Before the Event

Know your event. Knowing your event is important for all types

of ceremonies, whether it’s a wedding, graduation, bar mitzvah,

celebrity roast, etc. The type of event will dictate the type of

atmosphere you, the MC, need to create. Knowing what’s going on,

what should be talked about and what is coming next is key to

being a successful MC.

Know your responsibilities. The MC is responsible for creating

and sustaining the intended atmosphere throughout the event.

The intended atmosphere may vary depending on the type of

event, although most events that hire an MC are looking to create

a fun and energetic atmosphere.

Know your role expectations. Being an MC means that you have

a great sense of humor, you can work a crowd, and you’re a

practiced public speaker. This means that you have to be

prepared to improvise, so you can react efficiently to whatever

that may arise. For example, you may have to momentarily

entertain the audience while waiting for the next speaker to get

out of the bathroom or for the broken microphone to be

replaced.

Do your research. Contact your key speakers to find out some

background information on them, and use that information to

prepare your introductions for the speakers. This background

11
research will help you construct introductions that sound more

personal and genuine.

Stay organized. Create or review a given agenda for the event,

and plan out, minute by minute, the event schedule. Take into

consideration the time it takes to get on and off the stage, make

introductions for guests, and speeches or thank yous from guest

members.

During The Event

Remain calm. Being an MC is a lot of pressure. The event’s

success is largely contributed to how well the MC keeps things

on track. While the event’s proceedings can get hectic, it is

important to remain calm and focus on maintaining your MC

persona.

Prepare the opening of the event. Introduce yourself

and welcome the audience to the event. Identify the specific,

principal groups of your audience, and welcome them individually.

These welcomes don’t need to be long-winded, but they do need

to be authentic.

Introduce the speakers. The MC has the key responsibility of

introducing different speakers that come up on stage, as well as

other key people at the event. The more pertinent a guest is, the

more detailed and tailored your introduction of them should be.

12
Bridge between segments. Connecting one segment to the next

can be easier by using some humor to bridge the two. Before the

event starts, try to prepare some talking bits like remarks,

anecdotes, or jokes that can be used in between segments.

Be prepared for anything. As mentioned earlier, a great MC

must always be on their toes. Live events are notorious for having

slight hiccups: a server might spill a drink, the wrong music might

play, or the scheduled speaker might be on their way back from

the bathroom. Keep control of the event by being ready to

smooth over any distractions or mishaps to keep the mood light.

Close the event. Your closing of the event should be as exciting

and sincere as your opening. Normally to close the event, the MC

thanks all of the attendants, speakers, and performers. It’s good

manners to also thank everyone who helped to put the event

together. Summarize what took place at the event and what was

learned, and then depending on what kind of event it was,

encourage the audience members to take action.

SPEECH

Knowing how to give a good speech is a skill that’s valuable in countless

different circumstances. Chances are you’ll be asked to give speeches or

presentations in classes at school. If you get involved in volunteer groups,

brief speeches to open events or thank participants are a must. Then

there are the speeches at events such as weddings, as well as speeches

that you might have to give in the workplace. That amounts to the

average person being required to give quite a lot of speeches, even if

they don’t get involved in an area such as politics where the ability to

give a good speech becomes even more important.

Here are our top tips for giving a great speech:

Practice your microphone technique

Keep it short

Consider what your audience wants to hear

Pick a theme and stick to it

Speak slowly

Tell a couple of jokes

Don’t be afraid to repeat yourself if you need to

Only use the visual aids you need

Get a friend to check for awkward mannerisms

Look around the room

Don’t be scared of a good reaction

Beginning of Global Warming Speech

"That so many of us are here today is a recognition that the threat from

climate change is serious, it is urgent, and it is growing. Our generation's

response to this challenge will be judged by history, for if we fail to meet

it - boldly, swiftly, and together - we risk consigning future generations

to an irreversible catastrophe."

These are the words President Obama used to begin his global warming

speech before the United Nations Summit in 2009. Search Google for

global warming and you will get almost 65 million pages of results.

The subject has certainly drawn a lot of attention. But just what is global

warming? What is causing it? What effects does it have on the earth

and its inhabitants? What are some possible solutions? These are the

questions that I will be addressing in this short, informative speech

today.

20
What is Global Warming?

Global warming is the gradual increase of the temperature of earth's

atmosphere and oceans. Over the past century the average temperatures

have gone up by just over one degree. This may not seem like much, but

many scientists agree that the earth's temperatures are starting to

increase at a faster rate.

What Causes It?

Global warming occurs when greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide,

nitrous oxide, and methane trap heat inside the earth's atmosphere.

Think about what happens when you open your car door after the windows

have been rolled up on a hot day. Heat from the sun enters the car, but

the frame of the car prevents it from escaping. To a small extent, this

is a representation of what happens during global warming. Burning fossil

fuels like petroleum and deforestation both contribute to the problem.

21
What Effects does Climate Change Have on the Earth and its

Inhabitants?

Global warming has already started to affect the earth in several ways.

Arctic glaciers have begun to melt, threatening indigenous life such as

the polar bears. Melting glaciers also cause sea levels to rise. This could

become a problem for low land areas like the ones in the South Sea

Islands.

Ocean temperatures have begun to rise. This causes some of the algae

to die which can affect the entire food chain.

What are some Possible Solutions to the Problem?

There are ways we can combat the effects of global warming. The Clean

Air Act of 1990 is a law in the United States that attempts to protect

and improve the earth's air and atmosphere. Some of the components of

this law include limiting harmful vehicle emissions and phasing out the use

of chemicals that can damage the ozone layer. On a more personal level,

we can work to prevent global warming by planting trees and by car-

pooling.

Climate change is seen as a serious threat that is receiving serious

attention world-wide. Hopefully, this global warming speech has helped

inform you of what causes it and the effects that it has on the earth.

It's up to you to decide how you can help to do something about it.

22
MOTIVATIONAL SPEECH

The Pursuit of Happiness

Hello everyone, I would like to talk about something so obvious, but still

many of us don't know the true meaning of it. I'm referring to happiness.

The definition of happiness is the state of wellbeing characterized by

strong emotions like intense joy. But, for many people, this explanation

is a bit vague, and that's why they create different interpretations of

what it means. For some people, happiness equals money or fighting for

your country while others say it comes from gaining knowledge or getting

a better social position. But I believe that true happiness can be found

within and whenever you want it. Happiness isn't getting an award or

getting a ten on a test. Happiness is right in front of you. The only thing

you have to do is allow yourself to feel it.

23
On our planet, there are more than 1.5 million different species. But what

if told you that the one thing we have in common is the feeling of

happiness. Not only we all feel it, but we also share it. The most common

example of us sharing happiness with other species is when you have, for

example, a dog or a cat. It's always nice that when you come home, you

can cuddle up with them and share happiness. Because happiness isn't all

about making progress in life and accomplishing something special, it can

be found in everything you do, and that makes you feel good. Throughout

the years, there have been many different studies about if animals feel

happiness. The one thing they found is that animals feel the same things

but express it in a different way. When, for example, a tiger feels

comfortable and happy, it will squint or close its eyes because losing

vision means your lowering your defense while we as humans would smile

or laugh.

Now that you know that we're not the only ones experiencing happiness,

I would like to talk about ways that you can feel or experience it. Some

people seek glory, and others want wealth while a third one would go to

obtain some more knowledge. I believe that none of these three people

are truly happy; they would still have to live with the burdens of life that

their choices bring with them. They're not feeling happiness. They are

feeling pleasure. Pleasure only lasts for a short amount of time, while

happiness is everywhere where you want it to be.

24
I'm not saying that it's impossible to feel true happiness. On the

contrary, I'm saying that happiness is all around us. You just have to find

a way for yourself to feel it. In my life, there have been many delighting,

exciting, and cheerful moments. And my first memory in which I

remember that I was truly happy was when I was about the age of five,

and I went to an amusement park with my family. We spent the entire

day in the park, and I couldn't have been happier. Of course, I was

younger there, and I was happy with everything that entered my path,

but it is the small details that make it a day to never forget. We've all

had these kinds of days and we've all had ups and downs but we're still

so young and the one thing I want you to remember for the rest of your

life is that true happiness doesn't depend on who you're with or what

you're doing it depends on if you're willing to feel it.

So, in conclusion, the one thing that has shaped our world to the one we

know today is happiness. I believe that happiness is available to anyone

at any moment at any place. I believe that we're not the only ones

experiencing it. Everybody experiences it differently, but in the end, it

is the same.

As Mahatma Gandhi once said:

"Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in

harmony."

Thank you for listing to my speech.
