1) What are you planning to do for your Capstone project?

Why have you chosen this topic?

Why does it excite, inspire or fascinate you?
Who could possibly help/guide/mentor you while you complete your project?

2) What inquiry question(s) are you considering for your project?

3) What do you anticipate the obstacles and challenges to be?

4) How do you plan to overcome your challenges to be successful with your Capstone project?

1) With my Capstone project, I hope to collect some useful pieces of information I’m learning
during this exchange year concerning living “on your own” or at least without your parents who can
do stuff for you.
By developing an app, I want to help all the future college students or simply people who are going
to live on their own for the first time and who don’t know how to do it by providing an app that
gives you information about those things and at the same time helps you keeping everything
organized and in one place. Things I want to add to my app are a list of chores everybody should do
with instructions and pieces of advice on how to do them correctly and a calendar to plan those
activities, a tool about how to budget that helps you keep track of all your expenses, grocery
shopping list where you can add the recipes you want to cook, and a calendar to check all the
school/work deadlines.
I chose this topic because I think I would find an app like this useful and because I want to help
anybody who doesn’t know the same stuff (as I said before, college students or people who are
going to live on their own for the first time and maybe don’t have parents or somebody that can tell
them everything that they will need to do or know) by providing them with a useful tool.
This project excites me in terms of personal challenge (at the moment I have no knowledge about
developing an app so I’ll certainly need to learn how to do it) but at the same time in terms of
helping the community by using what I’ve learnt and what I will discover in the next few months
about living “alone” as my research for the app.
I still don’t know who can help me. I will probably ask some questions to my mother regarding the
information and pieces of advice I will put in my app, but I don’t know anybody who could help me
with the programming and developing part of the work I’ll need to do.

2) The question that made me start thinking about this project is “What is a useful tool that I would
probably use now that I live in another country than my family?” but then, other questions started to
wander my mind like “How can I help other people in my situation, or, more in general, how can I
help everybody who is going to live on their own? How can my knowledge help the community?”.
After deciding the topic of my work, I asked myself “What is something I would like to do that can
help me present all of the things I'm learning?”. With this question, programming and developing an
app came to my mind.

3&4) The biggest obstacle I will encounter is certainly connected to developing an app. At the
moment, my knowledge of programming and creating an app is absent. I know nothing about that. I
plan to find YouTube videos that will teach me how to do it but if then I realize is impossible for
me to create an app, I will try to create a website or I will only collect the information and talk
about how I would like to develop this app only in a theoretical way.
I’m very stubborn so I won’t throw in the towel easily, I will try my best to stick with the original
plan to create the app.
Hoping to realize it,
Marta
