EXERCISE 1: COLLECTION AND PRESENTATION OF DATA

I. OBJECTIVES: At the end of the exercise, the student must be able to: 1. present collected data through a frequency table. 2. present data set in tabular form 3. present data through charts II. Materials: 1. data set 2. calculator 3. computer III. Methods: 1. Encode your data in excel. Each row should represent a respondent and each column should represent a variable. Be sure to include legend in your worksheet. 2. Classify your variables according to scales of measurement.

Draw a bar graph for one of the variables in your data set. Explain the graph. 6. Draw a line graph for one or two variables in your data set. Explain the graph.

V. Analysis: 1. Can you identify the best method of presenting data? If YES, what will it be? If NO, why not?

In presenting the data, method will vary depending on the type of data you will present. If you present your data in percentage either nominal or ordinal, it is best to use pie chart or bar chart. But if you are presenting a data which is in the form of time line or comparison of two variables, its best to use the line chart.
