AWECO Polska Appliance Upgraded to Latest Version of Infor LN in Nine Months

Introduction

Bolstered by the new, innovative functionalities of LN for logistics and other areas of the
enterprise’s functioning, the upgrade provides AWECO a path for business optimization. The
system also offers access to progressive industry-specific analytics and utilizes Infor ION and
Infor Ming.le, a purpose-built middleware and social collaboration engine which facilitates
internal and external communications between customers and their suppliers. A new interface, as
well as unification of the software, ensures that data is stored safely, in accordance with industry
standards and legal requirements.
The migration involved implementing the Polish localization functionality of Infor LN,
now standard, which allows for a much easier implementation process in international companies
operating in Poland and Polish companies with foreign branches. Project preparations included
taking a detailed inventory of the legacy solutions used at AWECO and an analysis of the
systems by S&T in order to determine the possibility of utilizing the standard functionality of the
new system.

deployment of the latest version of Infor LN by AWECO Polska Appliance. The nine-month
upgrade project involved a team of over ten people from AWECO and Infor partner, S&T.
AWECO employs 930 people in Poland and manufactures components for dishwashers, laundry
machines, coffee machines and vehicles.

Alternatives

The number of system modifications has been reduced significantly and thus has
provided convenient use and maintenance of the software. In the finance area alone, the 214 in-
house developed applications and systems were reduced to merely 19 since Infor LN has
standard functionalities such as flexible reporting and enhancements of bank statement
recording.

onsite servers and hardware.

migration projects are successful.

Don’t combine an upgrade to an ISV application with a migration

Aside from database migrations and SAP’s DMO (database migration option), it’s
generally not a good idea to combine an upgrade to an ISV application along with the
migration. It’s better to either upgrade the application on the current source platform and
then migrate or migrate first and then upgrade. Many clients prefer the latter as the new
target platform is always faster than the older source.

Isolate the migration from the client’s day-to-day operations

Use staging servers wherever possible so you can avoid an outage on production
systems. This also helps eliminate the possibility of the migration bringing down your
business. Note that the staging servers need to be as close as possible to the configuration
of the production servers so you can establish accurate timings for the cutover.
