About us
Elite Designers is a London based structural engineering consultancy. In our twenty plus years
in practice we have completed more than 8000 projects. Over 90% of our business comes
through the referral of existing clients who value our hands-on approach, friendly,
collaborative way of working and practical, problem-solving mindset.
We love design
Temporary Works
At ED we believe the best design can only be achieved when the whole construction cycle is
considered. That’s why we’re more than happy to take on the temporary works within the
main structural design. After all, the how of a build can be more complicated than the
structural solution itself, particularly when working in the London market where sites are
often small and based in densely developed locations leading to complex construction
logistics.

And it shows. Whatever the scale of a project, we love taking a brief, understanding a creative
vision and meeting the engineering challenges around bringing that vision to life. If our work
is to become part of the built environment, we want it to have a positive impact, to enhance
communities and to build better places to live, work, study and play. We were delighted
therefore, when one of our projects, Red House, became RIBA 2018 House of the Year London
Regional Winner and was short-listed in the finals of the national competition.
We believe that great design makes life better. By making great designs work structurally, we
hope to make life better and easier for our clients too.
We love building too
Put simply, we love the whole process of building. We take huge pleasure in seeing our
designs come to life and enjoy nothing more than being on-site as the main structural works
get underway. We also love a head-scratching problem, the knottier, the better. We have
been responsible for the structural design of highly complex double and triple basements in
some of the most valuable properties to come to the London market over the past five years.
We not only resolved the complex engineering challenges they posed but also succeeded in
winning planning consent for each of these as well as addressing the related party wall issues.
Smarter Engineering
We believe that it is possible to deliver great design on time and on budget. We believe that
by mapping a project in depth from concept to construction phase we can identify inflection
points where value can be added and conversely the high-risk stages where it can be reduced
or even destroyed. We call this process of interrogating projects to identify savings and
efficiencies, constraints and opportunities, Smarter Engineering. For optimal results the
earlier we get involved in a project, the better. Frequently, the cost savings attributed to our
design input have more than covered the cost of our involvement, so not only Smarter
Engineering but a smarter investment decision too.
Our management team
Nigel Reynolds – Founder & Director
Nigel’s passion for construction stems from his engineering studies at Imperial College when
summer holidays were spent working on building sites around London where he tried his hand
at various trades, retaining a keen interest and well-equipped workshop to this day. More
importantly, he learned first-hand, the value of great engineering design and clear, precise
detailing. He believes firmly in our obligation to produce buildable designs for our clients and
relentlessly champions the ‘buildability’ testing of ED plans, designs and drawings.
John Fitzpatrick – Director
Before joining Elite Designers, John worked in Ireland with a large multi-national, multi-
discipline engineering firm on several high-profile projects including the iconic Aviva Stadium
and the rail infrastructure alterations necessitated by its expansion. In addition to these he
designed a series of major drainage projects to service both large scale housing developments
and smaller mixed-use developments.
Since joining Elite, John has headed up the Commercial Contracts Team. Recent projects
include several multi-level basement developments in high-end residential developments in
and around Central London as well a number of larger multi-storey, mixed-use developments,
office-to-residential conversions and Housing Association assignments.
Stuart Masterson – Director

We care
We have a ‘promises made, promises kept’ ethos meaning that our duty of care to clients
takes precedent over all other considerations. Our way of working ensures that every project
is overseen by a director supported by a team of engineers and CAD specialists. We
understand the pressures on a project management team and the need for real-time solutions
to real-time problems. Our flat management structure means we are accessible and that we
can respond quickly to a client’s need whether by phone, email or in person. We believe that
we can add value to any project through our experience and expertise.
Stuart began his career with Halcrow, working with the Environment Agency and British
Waterways around London’s canal network. The latter sparked an abiding interest in historic
structures which led to a master’s degree in Historic Conservation at Oxford Brookes. Stuart
has a fascination with the forensics of historic building construction, often providing a vital link
between architects and local authorities when designing structural interventions into listed
buildings.
