Aim/Objective:
This Project aims at developing an efficient expert system which aims at blending MARKET BASKET ANALYSIS with ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE.

Features of Application:

Analyzing the purchasing patterns of customers. Identifying the most frequently purchased products Identifying the links between these products Identifying the hours of the day in which particular products are mostly purchased Studying the purchasing patterns to identify regular customers Offering additional services and discounts to the regular customers on products they frequently purchase Tracking the sales of newly launched products Identifying the products which are purchased less frequently and taking measures increase the sale of the same On the basis of above discoveries making estimates for orders to be placed in the future

Environment Overview:
The Expert System Application uses Java Application Programming Interface to provide the required GUI for the application. It then connects to the databases that have been created using ORACLE 9i.

Innovativeness & Usefulness:


This project provides a whole new dimension to the concept of MARKET BASKET ANALYSIS by using the concepts of ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE. This project can be used by any departmental enterprise (be it small or big) to maximize the sales and hence their profits. The application provides the scope for better utilization of the departmental space , which may be achieved by placing the items identified during market basket analysis under close proximity. This application is beneficiary not only to the owners of the enterprise but also to the customers who use the services of the enterprise to fulfil their daily needs. The analysis performed by the project allows the identification of products the customers are most likely to purchase, and offers them additional discounts on them. It also makes the owners aware of the products which are not popular amongst the customers and that their sales are dipping. The analysis hence performed will allow the owners to perform cost and profit estimates on the products identified and take necessary measures in order to try and boost their sales.

Current Status of Development:


The GUI of the application is under construction and the connectivity with the databases has also been worked upon. Various research papers concerning the same domain are under study.
