Enfoque pedagógico
Nuestro libro está apegado al nuevo mccems.

Enfoque constructivista

consigna.

Docente Estudiante

• Autonomía de cátedra. • Formación integral.

• Aprendizaje progresivo y • Fomento a la creatividad, la

sistemático. innovación y el pensamiento
crítico.
• Abordaje de conocimientos
transversales. • Habilidades y competencias

When you have a question about science, math, or English, ask

That is cheating. Don't be a cheater. Be honest. Use ChatGPT to help

Next week, we have our annual Higher Education Fair. Visit
us! Surprises, gifts, raffles, and more.

I don't know what to study

This is your chance to apply
for vocational tests. Meet Mr. Maldonado, our school counselor.

Online education?
Mario tells us about the
advantages and disadvantages of online education.

Higher education fair

-Laura Diaz

High school is fun. This is a time to have many friends. These are days to learn and play. These are also days
to think about our future. What do you want to become? A doctor? A business person? An architect? A
teacher? This is a big decision.
Next week we have our annual Higher Education Fair. Universities from all over the country come to our
school. They show all the careers we can study. They will have stands in the gym and the basketball court.
Every year, we have a conference with Mr. Maldonado about vocational choices. We also have surprises
like scholarships for some universities, raffles of school supplies, bookstore gift cards and promotional pens,
notebooks, binders, backpacks, pencil cases, and more. And for the first time, we have the mother of all
raffles this year: you can win an iPad or a Samsung tablet!
So, don't forget to attend this great event. See you at the Higher Education Fair next week!

war zone. After having breakfast, he never washes the
dishes. He piles them up in the sink.

THERE IS / THERE ARE

When we want to express the existence of something, we use the following structures:
There is + a/an + singular noun.
There is a smart TV in the bedroom.
There is an oven in the kitchen.

There are + plural nouns.

There are four bedrooms.
There are two offices.

THERE ISN'T / THERE AREN'T

When we want to express that something does not exist, we use the negative:
There isn't + a/an + singular noun
There isn't a store nearby.
There isn't an interesting film in the cinema.
There aren't + plural nouns
There aren’t ornaments.
There aren’t balloons.

IS THERE…? / ARE THERE…?

When we want to ask about the existence of something, we use the following structures:
Is there a + singular noun +?
Is there a famous player?

Are there + plural nouns +?

Are there celebrations and festivals?
Are there unique animals?

ATTENTION!
You may also ask about the number of things in existence by using the following question:
How many + plural noun + are +t here +?
How many chairs are there?
There are ten chairs.
How many teachers are there?
There is one teacher.
Notice that we always ask the question in the plural form. The answer may be plural or singular.

• Between.
• In.
• In front of.
• Inside.
• Next to.
• On.
• Through.

The sister of Laura = Laura’s sister
The husband of my cousin = My cousin’s husband

POSSESSIVE PRONOUNS
A possessive pronoun is used instead of a possessive adjective + noun. We usually use them to avoid repeating

This jacket is mine, not yours.

POSSESSIVE ADJECTIVE POSSESSIVE PRONOUN

MY My jacket is black. MINE The black jacket is mine.

YOUR Your shoes are brown. YOURS The brown shoes are yours.

Finally, Saturday! I never rest during the week; we always have

weekends but today I want to watch Dennise's videos on TikTok.
I don't like to upload videos, but I like to watch them. I prefer

podcast is about setting goals and objectives. I seldom make
podcasts about school topics, but I think that goals are important.
I also want to go to the mall with Laura. It is fun to hang around

LAURA: Oh! You're always very busy.

I feed my dog. Then, I do my homework.

Choose Healthy Food and Drinks

To eat healthily, you must take control of what you eat and drink. For example,
replace food high in sugar, salt, and unhealthy fat with fruit and vegetables.
Fruits and Vegetables
Make half of your plate fruit and vegetables. Dark green, red, and orange vegetables have high levels
of the nutrients you need, like vitamin C, calcium, and fiber. Adding tomatoes and spinach to your
sandwich is an easy way to get more veggies in your meal.
Protein
Power up with low-fat or lean meat like turkey or chicken, and other protein-rich food such as
seafood, eggs, beans, and nuts.
Dairy
Build strong bones with milk products such as yogurt and cheese.
Tips for healthy eating:
• Try to limit food like cookies, candies, frozen desserts, and chips, which often have a lot of
sugar, unhealthy fat, and salt.
• For a quick snack, try recharging with pears, apples, or bananas.
• Don’t add sugar to your food and drinks.
• Avoid soda, energy drinks, sweet tea, and juice.

FREQUENCY ADVERBS
An adverb is a word we use to modify, qualify, or describe a verb, an adjective, or another adverb.
Pay attention to the words in red in the reading. They are called frequency adverbs. We use them to express
how often an action is done.
100% Always We always have a lot of homework.
Usually I usually chat with my friends on weekends.
Often We often go for ice cream.
50% Sometimes I sometimes go with my father to his soccer game.
Seldom I seldom make podcasts about school topics.
Rarely He rarely misses a practice.
0% Never I never rest during the week.

Pay attention to the position of frequency adverbs. They are placed between the subject and the verb.
Subject + frequency adverb + verb
They always get up early in the morning.
There are some other frequency or time expressions:

Once a week = one time a week Twice a month, I visit my cousins.

I record a podcast once a week. This week, the podcast is about setting goals.
Twice a week = two times a week Every Sunday, we get together for lunch.

We can combine words to make more frequency expressions:

Three times a week/day/month/year

Two times/twice a week/day/month/year
One time/once a week/day/month year

For example:
Mario helps Laura three times a week.
Dennise visits her grandmother twice a year.

ATTENTION!
When we want to ask about the frequency someone does an activity, we ask:
How often do/does + subject + verb ?
How often do you take the bus? I always take the bus.
How often does he help Laura? He helps Laura twice a week.
