Sever Trench
1. Setting out, excavation, formation.
1.1 Setting out- Initial measurement, marking and recording will be done by site surveyor.
1.2 Excavation- it will be carried out by excavation team and head of in charge.
1.2.1 Every 1.5m vertical excavation will have 0.5m horizontal step.
1.2.2 The trench width to be as per ADSSC’S SPEC, DIVISION 2. SECTION 02120

1.3 Formation – The trench formation shall be compacted to obtain minimum 90%
Compaction

2. Geotextile- Geotextile filter fabric for granular pipe bedding and surround shall comply
with the requirements of Table 1 below and shall be welded or mechanically
bonded ultraviolet stabilized polypropylene fibre mats made from continuous / staple fiber.

3. Granular bedding and surround – refer to the trench cross-section drawing and table to calculate
the thickness and Qty.
- After completing 150mm thick need to do compaction with plate compactor or manual.
- Approved 10mm single size natural granular aggregate bedding material will be placed with a
thickness shown in the approved shop drawings.

4. Pipe Laying – Initial Deflection test, Mirror test, flow test to be conducted after completion of pipe
laying from manhole to manhole or segment of branch connection.
- Mandrel test to conduct for lesser than 600mmØ of pipe.
- Metal feeler to check that the rubber gasket is correctly located.
- Pipe laying should be start from downstream to upstream.

5. Hydrostatic Testing – Upon completion of pipe laying and initial deflection test Mirror test, flow test.
We need to conduct hydrostatic test by applying the water pressure of minimum 0.5 bar for the
shallow pipeline (where the depth to invert not exceeds 4m), if the depth to invert exceeds 4.0m for
example for 5.0m the required pressure will be 0.6bars, for 6.0m depth 0.7 bars etc.
- The hydrostatic test shall be accepted if, the pressure didn't change in a period of 1 hour
without adding any extra amount of water and there are no signs of leakage from the pipeline
joints.
6. Deflection test- After a line of uPVC pipes has been installed, hydrostatically tested and the
trench backfilled, but before the dewatering is removed, draw a pig or ball through the pipeline,
so sized that it will not pass any point in the pipeline which has deflected to a greater degree
than that permitted after initial installation.
- 3% after initial installation.
- 5% long term.

7. Backfilling - At least one test shall be conducted for each layer for every 100m of pipe trench
backfilled.
o - Ensure the in-place density test is done as per BS1377: Part 9 and the test result
complies with the requirement 95% of the MDD for depths less than 1.5m in roads and 90%
of MDD for depths not exceeding 1.5m from original ground level or finished formation
level, other than in roads.
