INTRODUCTION
Within the social and cultural contexts of modern society the
concept of power and its manipulation is pervasive. From the
actions of governmental agencies and other institution to the
ways that individuals such as parents, teachers, and managers
impose their will on their dependents, we anticipate and accept
societal and international power and its consequences. As a
social construct, power is frequently studied and interest in this
phenomenon is justified; power appears to be a primary
organizing principle in society (e.g. Weber, 1974; Mills, 1956;
Foucault, 1972). The existence of social hierarchies, social classes,
and variables such as social status and group identity all
appears to be Influenced by the concept of power- who has it
and and how it is manipulated.
