Venice

The Venice carnival is one of the most famous in the world. It is distinguished by its costumes and
setting. It is inspired by the clothing of the 17th century. Its characteristic elements are
unmatched. The class of their costumes is demonstrated using white, gold or silver masks.

It has been celebrated since the 11th century, when parties of this type were held, to which the
aristocrats went for fun. The nobility had the opportunity to hide behind the masks to interact
with the people of the town; since in normal conditions it could not do it.

They last for 10 days. In 2020 these celebrations have to suspended because of the coronavirus.

Capodanno

Before the Befana the Capodanno or the culmination of the old Year and the beginning of the new
one are celebrated. Large and joyous parties and festivals are held in many cities and towns in
Italy.

In the largest and most important cities, people gather to celebrate in the streets, enjoy live
concerts, plays and fireworks. As well as parties in discos and hotel lounges.

It is a celebration where family and friends get together and eat in abundance. And a few minutes
before midnight they go out to their balconies to symbolically receive the new year and say
goodbye to the one that is already leaving.

That night you can enjoy fireworks in different cities. Although one of the best fireworks shows in
the country is in Naples.

In Rome there is a very unique tradition for this date. It consists of a series of brave young people
throwing themselves from the Cavour bridge into the water of the Tiber. It will takes place on the
morning of January 1. This day the Pope performs the first mass of the year from the Vatican and
is broadcast live throughout the country.

Carnival

The carnival is celebrated the days before Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of Lent.
Some claim that the Italian carnival starts from January 7, when Christmas ends. It is characterized
by its picturesque and cheerful celebrations, which vary from one city to another.

Italian carnivals are famous worldwide, you should organize a trip to Italy to enjoy this festivity.
