When is celebrated?

Actually the Venice Carnival lasts

about 10 days and is celebrated at
the beginning of February,
although it is possible that a few
days before events will already be
held. For example, in 2021 there
are celebrations from January 30
to February 16.
 Why is it celebrated

The reason for celebrating this carnival was attributed to the

need by the Serenissima government to grant a short period
dedicated to parties and entertainment to its citizens,
especially from lower social classes, during which Venetians
and foreigners celebrated with music and dancing in the street.
Through masks and costumes it was possible to hide one's
identity, thus canceling out social, sexual and religious
divisions: Everyone had fun together! and was able to exceed
the consequences of sin.
 What is the purpose

Carnival of Venice is very different from the carnivals

that we know. People are preparing for these days all
year round and they wear spectacular costumes. They
go for a walk down the street in their masks and
costumes from the 17th century and are displayed for
photos.

The festive atmosphere lasts all day and you can find
improvised parades all over Venice. Tourists do not
usually dress up, but you can rent costumes and masks
if you wish.
 Curiosities
-Venetians can spend thousands of euros on
elaborate Carnival costumes and masks.
-Private parties are very expensive, a night of fun
in one of them can cost € 500.
-In the past, the government had to ban the wearing
of masks for the rest of the year and at night after
the carnival was over, for their malicious use.

-The Carnival celebration could not be interrupted

by anything! In 1789, the Doge of Venice died and
the festivities continued as if nothing had
happened.
