POSSIBLE THESIS TITLE:

KOKOSNUSS means Coconut in German.

“COCONUT TREE” - TREE OF LIFE

Cocopalawan:
Commerce Center for Southern Palawan"

Coconut-Integrated Agroforestry: Designing agricultural systems that incorporate coconut trees with
other crops, promoting biodiversity and sustainable farming.

CONCEPT:

Coconut Biomimicry Structures: Architectural designs inspired by coconut structures, such as

innovative roofing solutions based on coconut shells for natural ventilation and cooling.

USES OF COCONUT:

Besides the edible kernels and the drink obtained from green nuts, the harvested coconut also yields
copra, the dried extracted kernel, or meat, from which coconut oil, a major vegetable oil, is
expressed. The Philippines and Indonesia lead in copra production, and throughout the South Pacific
copra is one of the most important export products. The meat may also be grated and mixed with
water to make coconut milk, which is used in cooking and as a substitute for cow’s milk. The dry husk
yields coir, a fibre highly resistant to salt water and used in the manufacture of ropes, mats, baskets,
brushes, and brooms.

 Coconut Oil Production: Extraction of coconut oil, which is a versatile and natural resource used
in cooking, cosmetics, and biofuels.

 Coconut Fiber and Coir: Utilization of coconut coir for erosion control, soil improvement, and in
the manufacturing of mattresses, rugs, and other products.

 Coconut-Based Charcoal: Production of eco-friendly charcoal from coconut shells for cooking
and grilling.

 Coconut Timber: Use of coconut wood for construction and furniture, offering a sustainable
alternative to traditional timber sources.

 Coconut-Based Biofuels: Research into converting coconut oil and waste into biodiesel,
contributing to renewable energy sources.

 Coconut-Based Aquaculture / INTEGRATED COCONUT AND FISH FARMING/ Coconut

Agroforestry: Integrating coconut farming with fish or shrimp farming in integrated multi-trophic
aquaculture systems. Sustainable cultivation of coconut palms, which require minimal pesticides
and synthetic fertilizers, and help prevent soil erosion.

 Coconut Shell Artisans: Supporting artisans who craft intricate and decorative items from
coconut shells, promoting local craftsmanship.
 Coconut Waste-to-Energy: Conversion of coconut biomass into clean energy through gasification
or pyrolysis.

 Coconut-Based Water Filtration: Using coconut fibers and shells in water filtration systems to
remove impurities, providing clean drinking water in resource-constrained areas.

 Coconut Value-Added Products: Creation of innovative coconut-based products, including

snacks, beverages, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals.

 Coconut Waste Management / TRANSFORM INTO CHARCOAL: Innovative approaches for

recycling coconut husks and shells into charcoal, biochar, and activated carbon.

 Coconut-Based Textiles: Incorporation of coconut fibers into textiles, promoting sustainable

fashion and eco-friendly clothing.

 Coconut Biopesticides: Research into natural pest control methods using coconut-derived
substances, reducing the need for chemical pesticides.

 Coconut-Based Construction: Use of coconut timber and other materials for sustainable and
eco-friendly building construction.

 Coconut Tourism: Development of coconut-themed tourist attractions and experiences to boost

agro-tourism in coconut-growing regions.

 Coconut Bioplastics: Research into creating biodegradable plastics using coconut oil and husks,
reducing plastic pollution and waste.
