Confidence defined as our inner self quietly knows what are the things we are capable

of. Knowing our strengths and flaws and possessing a strong sense of self are further

definitions of confidence. To put it simply, confidence is a good self-perception. This study

will be focused primarily on the connection between a student's academic performance and

their level of confidence; specifically, if a student's academic performance will be impacted

by their level of confidence. A student's low academic performance at school is one of the

causes or reasons why they are having lack of confidence, leading them to doubt and think

critically about themselves. Lack of confidence has a detrimental effect on academic

performance and will undoubtedly have a significant impact on a student's academic

performance in many ways. Low self-esteem might make students less motivated to learn

since they will mistrust their own abilities and be reluctant to participate in class, which will

negatively impact their academic performance.

Self-confidence can be adverse to academic performance as it leads to the dropout

cycle (Driver, 2023). Stankov, Lee, Luo and Hogan (2012) found that self-confidence was a

greater predictor of performance than other characteristics on the East Coast of the United

States. Low academic confidence, as a result, can contribute to poor academic performance

(Komarraju & Nadler, 2013; Stankov et al., 2012). Throughout the presentations they gave,

the students committed a variety of problems, including failing to make eye contact, talking

with vibration, repetition, a lot of gestures and a lot of pauses. Students’ confidence was

influenced by characteristics such as lack of ambition, lack of practice, lack of vocabulary,

lack of abilities, and lack of preparedness all influenced students’ confidence (Nadiah, Arian,

& Ikhrom, 2019).

Contrary to the prevailing research, a few contradictory statements have emerged

suggesting that learning confidence may not have a significant impact on the academic

performance of senior high school students. For instance, a recent study conducted by
Thompson et al. (2020) found no substantial relationship between learning confidence and

academic outcomes among senior high school students. These findings challenge the

conventional belief that learning confidence directly influences academic performance. While

these opposing viewpoints exist, it is important to thoroughly examine the existing literature

and conduct further research to gain a comprehensive understanding of the complex

relationship between learning confidence and academic achievement.

According to Perkins (2018) self-confidence is related to success, achievements in

education, acceptance, and a persons’ well-being, among other things and self-efficacy, self-

esteem, and self-compassion are the three factors which can affect the level of self-

confidence of any individual. In the Philippines, students may affect their confidence in

academic because of the lack of support that can impact their ability to build confidence in

class. Furthermore, Palavan (2017) states that students’ lack of self-confidence can cause for

students’ lack of motivation which in result can cause education become necessary and make

student show negative attitude toward learning. One of the impacts of students who does not

have self-confidence according to Lukman & Nirwana (2020) is experiencing failure,

students who does not have self-confidence will usually experience failure easily, because

he/she is not sure of his/her ability to take an action solving a problem that is being faced.

Guskey (2017) emphasized that the experience of consistently earning low grades has the

potential to discourage students and result in their withdrawal from active learning

participation. Students good grades can boost students’ motivation and confidence in learning

engaging them to learn more in their academic.

The current study was conducted to assess the self-confidence and Academic

Performance among students after arising of several behavioral and educational problems.

According to Akbari and Sahibzada (2020) reported that self-confidence had a significant

effect on learning process among students, sharing of opinions, developing relations with
peers as well as teachers, seeking goals, controlling anxiety as well as developing interest in

lessons to learn more effectively were determined by level. There are various challenges

exists for students with lower self-confidence. Self-confidence many psychological barriers

such as feeling of in secureness, fearfulness, having anxiety, and feeling yourself apart from

the society are possible barriers that may arise for a student during the class which can

adversely affects the performance of individual. Self-esteem/self-confidence is one big

challenge that students are having as their vulnerability in learning is the lack of self-

confidence which can adversely affect the learning of any students. The Student with Low

Self-Esteem/self-confidence A student has a significant impact on almost everything on the

way engages in activities, deals with challenges, and interacts with others. Self-esteem also

can have a marked effect on academic performance. Low self-esteem can lessen a student's

desire to learn, and ability to focus, and willingness to take risks. In addition to that Palavan

(2017) states that students’ lack of self-confidence can cause for students’ lack of motivation

which in result can cause education become compulsory and make student show negative

attitude toward learning. These are the key causes and inspirations for conducting the

research. Because if students’ poor performance continues, the intended outcomes set out the

respected departments and effective curriculum is not possible to be achieved. Low self-

esteem or lack of confidence leaves students doubting their ability to succeed, making them

hesitant to engage in learning or take appropriate academic growth risks. The challenge in

working with students with low self-esteem is to restore their belief in themselves, so they

persevere in the face of academic challenges.

6th Paragraph – Local (Remoroza and Moldon)

There appears to be an empirical gap in the prior research. There is lack of rigorous

research in prior literature. Some of these is investigating the effect of confidence learning in

the academic performance of a students it appears to be important and worthy of investigation
