Through the PV Summer Banking Academy I was introduced into the world of finance. This morning, I
learned about the topics that will be covered during this academy. Starting with the US Financial System
and Monetary Policy. Today, I learned how the federal reserve system functions and the importance of
interest rates in the finance industry. in other words, interest is considered to be the cost of money.
Financial intermediaries aid in the indirect financing of lender and savers, while financial markets aide in
direct financing to the borrower and savers. Monetary policy ties together the management of the
money supply and interest rates which is controlled by the Federal Reserve System. In addition, I
learned about the types of financial institutions, the regulations of the US Financial System and some of
the regulatory agencies involved.
