Topic 2- Pets/Dogs

Answer these:

Do you have a pet? pet dog?

No, I don’t have a pet. Although I extremely love pets, I can’t enough money to buy and feed them. I see
pets are quite expensive. If you buy them, you will spend money for them such as food, health care,
toys,…

• What breed of dog do you like most?

To be honest, I really like the Poodle. Especially the toy poodle and mini poodle. They come from France.
There are many coat colors with the breed of Poodle like: black, white, black and white, brown,… They
look like very lovely. Everytime I see them I just want to hug them.

• How many pets would you like to have?

The way I see it 2 pets are enough. I will be able to fully take care of them. And if I have two pets I want
a cat and a dog. Although Vietnamese people have a quarrel like dogs and cats, but I think not all dogs
and cats. I think dogs and cats living together are quite interesting

Vocabulary:

K9– an abbreviation of the word canine

• pooper scooper – a device used to pick up animal droppings from public places

• obedience school – a school that trains pets to behave properly

• on a tight leash – to allow only a little freedom

Let’s talk about pets. Here are some questions to get you started.

Do people in your country like pets?

Yes, I think most people like pets. In the past, it was less common, but now more and more people have
a pet. Normally, they own a dog or a cat. I think pets make a good friend and give people company when
they’re lonely.”

Yes, in my country, most people love pets. Today, the society develops, the human life is enhanced,
many people start to think of raising pets as a friend, a small member of the family.

What animal don’t you like? Why?

I like most animals, but I get scared of some insects and spiders. I don’t like the way they move. Like, if I
have to get up in the night and there’s a cockroach running across the floor, I hate it.

I like a lot of animals except insects. Because they often look terrifying. Maybe there is another smell.
And there are insects that are very dangerous, which can cause itching, redness or illness in our bodies.

What kind of pet would you like to have? Why?

I’d love to have a cat. Kittens – especially – are so cute. But my mum is allergic to cats, so I’ll have to
wait until I have my own place before I can get one. Cats have fur that is so soft and fluffy.

For pets, people have common ones like cats and dogs mostly. They have them as a friend or for
protection. Some people have fish or a bird. On farms, there are many types of animals raised for food,
like cows, goats, sheep, pigs, chickens…

In my country there are many animals. Typically in the countryside will be buffaloes, cows, pigs,
chickens, dogs, cats, horses, ... In the city, pets will often come across such as dogs and cats. Want to see
other animals such as monkeys, elephants, deer, ostriches, ... will go to the park

• Would you enter your pet into any pet shows?

Unfortunately I don't have pets, but if I do I think I'll take them with me. Because I consider them as my
friends. Maybe so they can learn something interesting

• What are the pros and cons of having a pet?

First I will talk about the advantages. Having a pet will help you make friends in your life, improve your
anxiety, and make you more responsible. Animals are sensitive to emotions, and this is especially true of
dogs. They are very protective of their owners and always act as a great source of support. They can
sense their presence as needed and will give people unconditional love. Studies have also shown that
cuddling and talking with dogs can help lower blood pressure and heart rate. Spending time and playing
with your pet will help your body make brain chemicals. Research has shown that just looking into your
dog's eyes can trigger the release of oxytocin - a substance known as the love hormone - in your brain
and your pet. However, keeping a pet will cost you quite financially such as taking care of their health,
some bad pets will cause stress and fatigue for their owners.

• How is the dog grooming business in your country?

I think so, but it's not really popular yet. This will often happen with families with better finances. The
rest may make them at home to save money

• Would you let your pet sleep in your bedroom?

Although I love them very much, I will let them sleep outside of the bedroom. I will set them up for a
separate sleeping area for convenience and comfort
