Assamese District of Dibrugarh
kilometers northeast of Dibrugarh town. Following the 1950 Assam earthquake, the Dibang River began to move
southward, increasing the risk of flooding and potentially destroying Dibrugarh. during 25 communities have been
completely destroyed by erosion in the area during the past 60 years.
Due to recent significant flooding and the erosive effects of the flowing river, the bank line along the Rohmoria reach has
changed by as much as 400 m between 2009 and 2013. Bank erosion and flood protection measures were proposed for a
stretch of 2.6 km utilizing geotextile filter materials and for a stretch of about 9 km that was recognized as a highly
affected zone.
