The Rohmoria region is situated about 20 kilometers northeast of Dibrugarh town on the south bank of the Brahmaputra

in the Assamese district of Dibrugarh. The Dibang River started moving southward after the 1950 Assam earthquake,
increasing the risk of flooding and possibly devastating Dibrugarh. In the previous 60 years, erosion in the area has
completely devastated 25 towns.

The bank line along the Rohmoria reach has shifted by up to 400 m between 2009 and 2013 as a result of recent
substantial flooding and the erosive effects of the running river. Geotextile filter materials were suggested as bank erosion
and flood protection measures for a stretch of 2.6 km and for a stretch of roughly 9 km that was identified as a high risk
area.
